Good Point.
I agree we dont need projects, I think both players are past the "project" phase, their time is up.
What i meant by both players tagged as "potential"and "projects" is that they are stuck with that title, even though neither player will ever reach the "media-driven/unwarranted /false hope-poor judgement-of-talent-idea" of them becoming great. I think he is like you said good at a little bit of everything, which is more than Tony can do in my opinion.
And i think thats what we need, a wing player who can do a little bit of everything, he doesn't need big minutes, and doesn't need to have big expectations but just a player who can spell Paul or Ray, or if Doc wants to go small, and put him at the 4 , I think could really benefit the C's.
Just need him to be a poor man's Shawn Marion
I don't think he's strong enough to play the 4. He's a 2/3 before he's a 3/4. To wit, we have... 6 players who can play both the two and the three on our team: Ray, Pierce, Quisy, TA, Giddens and Walker. I've heard nothing that suggests Wright could beat any of the last three out for minutes (and I'm not high on any of them at this point, either - one's hurt, one's ineffective, one's hurt AND ineffective).
And I disagree with you. We don't need a wing who can do a little of everything. We need a wing who can play solid defense and hit an open jumpshot. Dorell Wright can shoot well enough from what I've read, but I've yet to read anything complimentary of his defense, aside from the fact that his length allows him to block some shots.
I'd like to offer the caveat that I'm going almost entirely off of scouting reports online. If you've seen this guy play, then you probably know his game better than I do.
If Doc wanted to go with a small lineup for a little bit he could put Wright at the 4. Wrights not a 4 , but his versatility allows that chance of putting him there if Doc wanted to go small.
Yeah, Wright can knock down a mid-range jumper, and like you said his length allows him to block some shots. TA, Giddens, or Walker aren't long, and they dont block shots. Wright will fit in with a defensive mindset on the C's.
And yeah, the few times I've seen him play, which is normally in scrap minutes, or blow-out games, his length can cause disruptions defensively, I know I said poor mans Shawn Marion, but the more I think about it he's more like a Trevor Ariza-like player.
I can tell you right now, that he is better than Giddens, more versatile than TA, and I like Bill Walker, so I wont say anything because of the bias, but Wright is better than TA and Giddens.
