Anybody who has time and is interested is invited to read my long family background.
a. Describe your family background
I was born in the Soviet Union, Russian SFSR (now Russian Federation), in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1988. Both my father and mother were born there.
However, my father's great-great-grandfather (his name was Wulff Suesskind) emigrated as a child from the German Empire (around 1875-80) to Belarus (not sure how it was called back then). His son, Zalman, moved as an adult with his Balarusian born son, Meir, from Belarus to the Russian Empire (in the 1910's - shortly before it become the Soviet Union), where my family resided until the end of the Soviet Union.
I was born there, but we left shortly before the end of the Soviet Union to Israel, where we stayed four months during the Gulf War, and after which we moved to Germany for the next 13 years, where my brother was born in 1991. In 2003, we were deported from Germany to Israel, and I have been living here for the past 6 years.
b. Describe your cultural background
I was born in Russia, but I have been raised in Germany (ages 2 to 15), so my mentality is almost strictly German. However, I feel myself as a Russian, and Russia will remain my native country in my heart. I feel home in Russia, not Germany. For whatever reason.
c. Describe your educational background
I am going to study in Germany, since I speak German better than Russian. I speak both languages at a native level, but still German is the language I speak best. I also speak German only with my brother, Russian with my parents.
I am going to get a BA in Economics, and I am probably going to start in 2010.
d. Community in which she or he was raised
German speaking community. Very little Russians. However, from age 15, almost only Russian community (here in Israel).
e. Name some leisure activities from your childhood
Table tennis, basketball and computer games.
f. Describe your religious background
Christian. I have a German-Jewish family name though (Suesskind), so I'm partially Jewish in my blood, but still, my family has believed in Christianity for as long as I can think back (300 years).
g. Any other relevant topic you feel is worth mentioning
Nope.
