Hello my fellow C's fans.  I was hoping some members who were born outside the US could lend me a few minutes of their time.  You see, I have this project due for my cultural anthropology class.  It's called a 'cross cultural interview'.  It's basically a short list of open ended questions that are to be answered by people who were not born in this country.  I'll post the questions here, and if any of you feel like contributing, I would be very thankful.  Tommy Points will be given to each responder, of course.  Ok here we go:

a. Describe your family background
b. Describe your cultural background
c. Describe your educational background
d. Community in which she or he was raised
e. Name some leisure activities from your childhood
f. Describe your religious background
g. Any other relevant topic you feel is worth mentioning

So I'm supposed to generate a 3-pager out of this by comparing different folks' cultures.  If you can help me out in any capacity, that would be superb.  Answer the questions as liberally or as conservatively as you'd like.  Your real names are not important either, so your anonymity will be retained.

Thanks in advance for your help on this guys.  And go C's!!!

Let's see if I can help you with this.

a. Describe your family background- I was born in Brazil
b. Describe your cultural background- I come from a interracial background, my dad's side of the family comes from Africa (way back) and my mom comes from Europe
c. Describe your educational background- receiving an Associates Degree in December
d. Community in which she or he was raised- half my life was in Brazil, other half in sunny Cape Cod
e. Name some leisure activities from your childhood- soccer, playing with neighborghood kids (in Brazil kids are just running wild)
f. Describe your religious background- I came from a Protestant family, very religious
g. Any other relevant topic you feel is worth mentioning- one interesting thing about Brazil is its diversity.  People think of USA when thinking of the Immigration rush, but Brazil also received an abundance of European and Asian immigrants.  In matter of fact, Brazil has the 2nd largest population of Japanese and Lebanese.  Brazil has the 3rd largest Italian population and a plethora of Germans, Greeks, Russians, etc.  Also, while USA received 4% of the African slaves, Brazil received 38%, making Brazil (I believe) the 4th largest population of black people in the world, meaning Brazil has more black people than most African countries.  However, a big difference is that in Brazil, people weren't as segregrated as much as here, so there has been many mixes of race and ethniticities over many generations.  Basically, if you are ever curious of what would look like if you mixed a bunch of the races together, just go to Brazil and that's what it looks like.

I hope this helps.
Baby Jesus!

  • Men lie, women lie, numbers don't!
a. I was born in Portugal (Europe, not Azores)

b. I am half Cape Verdean(my mother), and half Portuguese(father)
My mom was born in Cape Verde, but my father(even though Portuguese) was born in Angola.

c. Have always attended school in the US. Have an Associates in computer Science, still enrolled trying to finish BA.

d. I was born in Portugal and moved to Cape Verde at the age of 1. At the age of 4 I moved to the US. At 15 I stayed in Cape Verde for 6 months while waiting to receive my US citizenship. Have been here ever since.

e. I played alot of sports. Even though Soccer is the most popular I've always played basketball. Once I arrived in the US I fell in love with Football too.

f.I am from a Protestant(mother) and Catholic(father) family. I am unsure of which religion I am. (sort of have my own beliefs, but not Atheist.)

g. Even though Im half cape Verdean and half Portuguse, I have way more races I am mixed with. Cape Verde was a major destination for slaves before coming to America. There were Asian, Portuguese, African, Spanish, French, and Indian(India) people who settled there. The Cape Verdean race itself is said to be %50 African decent, 25% Portuguese, and 25% French. Like I said, I think it is more of a mix, though.

Anybody who has time and is interested is invited to read my long family background.

a. Describe your family background
I was born in the Soviet Union, Russian SFSR (now Russian Federation), in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg) in 1988. Both my father and mother were born there.

However, my father's great-great-grandfather (his name was Wulff Suesskind) emigrated as a child from the German Empire (around 1875-80) to Belarus (not sure how it was called back then). His son, Zalman, moved as an adult with his Balarusian born son, Meir, from Belarus to the Russian Empire (in the 1910's - shortly before it become the Soviet Union), where my family resided until the end of the Soviet Union.

I was born there, but we left shortly before the end of the Soviet Union to Israel, where we stayed four months during the Gulf War, and after which we moved to Germany for the next 13 years, where my brother was born in 1991. In 2003, we were deported from Germany to Israel, and I have been living here for the past 6 years.

b. Describe your cultural background
I was born in Russia, but I have been raised in Germany (ages 2 to 15), so my mentality is almost strictly German. However, I feel myself as a Russian, and Russia will remain my native country in my heart. I feel home in Russia, not Germany. For whatever reason.

c. Describe your educational background
I am going to study in Germany, since I speak German better than Russian. I speak both languages at a native level, but still German is the language I speak best. I also speak German only with my brother, Russian with my parents.

I am going to get a BA in Economics, and I am probably going to start in 2010.

d. Community in which she or he was raised
German speaking community. Very little Russians. However, from age 15, almost only Russian community (here in Israel).

e. Name some leisure activities from your childhood
Table tennis, basketball and computer games.

f. Describe your religious background
Christian. I have a German-Jewish family name though (Suesskind), so I'm partially Jewish in my blood, but still, my family has believed in Christianity for as long as I can think back (300 years).

g. Any other relevant topic you feel is worth mentioning
Nope.

Good luck with your paper.

a. English.  You need to go back to Great grandparents to find someone that wasn't born and raised here (and then it would only be Ireland).

b. I've only ever lived in England, but feel no particular attachment to the country other than family.

c. Again, all in England.  I have a university degree and a professional qualification.

d. A fairly large village, in a relatively rural area.

e. Sport, computer games

f. My father is very religious.  He works as a lay preacher and is a Christian (Church of England, which I understand is Catholic/Reformed).  I'd prefer not to comment on my own beliefs, but would note that I get the sense that hardly anyone seems to be outwardly religious over here (especially not young people) and church attendance is way down.

Hope that helps.

A. Younger of 2 sons.

B. Chinese parents, from Hong Kong, born there, but also Australian citizen since birth.

C. Did high school and is doing a bachelor degree in Australia.

D. Raised in Hong Kong up til I was 10, then moved to Sydney and lives in an English environment.

E. Basketball!! Soccer, and a few other sports here and there just to much around.

F. Mum's side is Catholic, went to a Catholic primary school then Christian HS.

G. Umm, a lot of Hong Kong people don't like to consider themselves as Chinese, when you ask them, they tell you they are from HK, I'm different however, I admit I'm a Chinese. However I'm a dual-citizen, so a lot of bloggers here probably recognise me as an Aussie, as that's where I live now.
P.S. I personally is not a big fan of Hong Kong and other stuff related to HK despite me being born from there (but let's not get into the details, 'cause it might go off in a tangent)
Anything is possible!!!
