Let me start by saying, I am a big fan of Marquis Daniels.  I have been since his rookie year in Dallas.  His herky jerky style and his ability to get to the hole at will and finsih is what made me a fan.

But since he has been hear in Boston, I have only seen glimpses of his talents.  I know he was ill during the Nets game, but he has been very non-agressive, and has been finhishing horribly at the rim.  He hasnt made too many floaters and runners, and hit many mid range jump shots
either.

It also looks like he doesn't have a role yet, so I am hoping once he gets comfortable and knows his role he will look like the Marquis Daniels that I became a fan of.

I think he has been still finding his way a bit.  I think he has mostly been focusing on learning his teammates, and getting them involved, rather than his own scoring.  While I agree that he hasn't seemed to be attacking the rim as much as he has in the past, it looks like he and Eddie have really started to get some chemistry.  He has been finding Eddie all over the place for open 3's.

I would expect him to get more aggressive as the season starts, and as the defense dictates it.

I do agree with you, Chris.  He and Eddie have alredy seem to have established a great chemistry together.  He is always looking for Eddie, and he has made great plays for other players.

His role is to put the ball in the basket and he is not doing it; he is missing horribly. I dont see why he neeeds any time to get used to scoring from 10 feet away. He is being asked to score from the same spots he has scored all his life. His shooting woes so far have nothing to do with his PG skills or lack of them. Its like playing defense; you can have a bad shooting night, but no excuse for not defending at your best.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

In Marquis' defense, he was coming off of a stomach bug the night before, but he just looks a little out of synch with his mid range shot.  Everything else (i.e. defense, rebounding, steals, assists) look very good.

I can't believe I just defended a guy from Auburn.

MD is a notoriously streaky scorer.  Get used to it.

The one thing that Donny "I'm as fast as LeBron" Marshall said that was egregiously wrong last night (other than the claim that in his playing days, he was as fast as LeBron) was that MD is a better spot up shooter than shooter off the dribble.

From everything I've seen from MD since he's been in the NBA (the Mavs are my west team so I've seen him quite a bit), this is completely backwards.  He will never sit there, wait for the ball, catch, and shoot in rhythm.  Instead, he needs to have the ball in his hands, put it on the floor, dribble around the defense, and shoot on the run.  Whether a floater, fadeaway, or pull up jumper - this is how he scores.

Sometimes I wonder if Donny actually watches the games, or if he's watching PGA replays.

In any case get used to Marquis throwing up bricks consistently.  I still don't have any problem with it.  When he's on, he's on.  But when he's off, don't get frustrated.
God bless and good night!

"His role is to put the ball in the basket and he is not doing it"

C'mon, his role is to play D, distribute the ball, take it to the rim when the opportunity or need is there. Admittedly, his shot looks shaky, but anyone who expected him to come in and be a scorer needs to check themselves.

Sure, MD will score some points for us this year, but his real value will be Defense, setting up Eddie and the second unit with good shots, and providing depth to help rest Rondi, PP and Ray.

If he averages 5 points a game I would not be surprised or disappointed.

Nice perspective, appreciated.

You have made quite a few determinations from 5 preseason games.

Hes not finishing right now but wathcing hom throughout his career I know that will not continue.

Right now what I love is his awareness in the offense. He makes really good decisions with the ball and is an above average passer.

About his defense, I dont see it as terrible right now. He will need more time to get used to the schemes.

Just think...Tony Allen could be in his spot right now.

I am very happy with Daniels total game...what a HUGE upgrade from Tony, Giddens & Walker.  Not really worried about his offense since that is the last thing he'll be offering to the club.  I can see him having some 20 pts games don't get me wrong but his main role will be everything but offense.  If he averages 5 a game but plays heady offense, good d and gives us sf minutes its great!

Clearly his biggest problem is his resemblence (due to his hair) to Mikki Moore. I was aghast the first few times I saw him playing.

Heh yep.  I actually didn't notice at first.  My dad was watching the Rockets game with me last week and he really said "AH!  Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.!  Why is HE in the game?"  and I'm like "Who?"  and he screams "Mikki Moore!".  True story...I died laughing.

"That's Quis, old man..."
God bless and good night!
