Because if Allen only plays here for three seasons he won't have been a Celtics long enough to have his jersey retired. Same if KG ends up being traded at some point in the future.

I think both have to bring home multiple titles to earn a retired jersey.

Ainge is going to have his number retired eventually. If he's GM long enough though he might wait until after Pierce has his number retired.

I agree with the additional title part.  And I don't really think KG was the centerpiece of our championship.  I would call Pierce the centerpiece.  KG was Pippenlike in my opinion.  He was good throughout the games but Pierce did most of the clutch damage.  Hell, PJ Brown did as much clutch damage.

Not true KG was our leading scorer in the playoffs, and our leading 4th quarter scorer in the playoffs.

He scored more efficiently, rebounded more, and is a better defender than Pierce. KG was our best player in 07-08 and is still our best player.

I think Rondo definitely has the best shot because he has the best shot to play here the longest.

KG and Ray need more years in the uniform and more titles.  If they both play here for about 4 more years that's very possible.  But the chances of them staying here for that long, or even staying in the league that long are way less than Rondo's (and Rondo has already shown he can be a main contributer).

How would his hypothetical five years on the Celtics put him among the best ever celtics players?

It's not a lifetime achievement award, it's based on your contributions while CELTICS is across your chest.

If KG plays here at a high level for 5 years and gets another championship for us, i'd be ok with it. But the fact that he's had a great career in Minnesota is immaterial to whether the Celtics should retire his number.

same argument against ray. i don't really care if he breaks the all time three point record in a C's uniform for number retirement purposes. I'll be ecstatic for ray, but 90+% of that record won't have been in a C's uniform, why on earth is it relevant?

Getting your jersey retired means something here. I'm all set with having great players show up for 3-5 years and getting their number in the rafters based on thier previous acomplishments, thanks.

For now I'm going to go with none of the above.  In my opinion the only one with a chance is Rondo.  Obviously we'll have to see how his contract and career turn out.


KG and Ray simply aren't going to be around long enough for it.  KG will have his 21 in Minnesota retired I would hope but not here.  Ray will go with either the Bucks or the Sonics I would guess if any.

Just speculation, based upon some things Wyc has said in the past.  Basically, Wyc's in favor of retiring the number from what I understand, but Danny has politely declined thus far.

But he was thinking of retiring it in Scal's honor, not Danny's
