Just heard it on Sports Hub that Pierce in an interview with Dickerson last night said he was willing to (I'm doing a horrible job of paraphrasing) "do anything to keep the team nucleus together including restructure his deal".

If this is so, kudos to the Captain.

It'll probably mean more guaranteed money over a span of years. Makes sense for both parties.

Well, he can't "restructure", this isn't the NFL, but he could opt out of the last year, and then sign a new contract.  Ultimately, though I think it all comes down to what the C's are willing to do for him.  If they are willing to give him a 4 year, $60 million deal, if he doesn't pick up his $22 million option, then I am sure he will do it.  However, if they are only willing to give him 3 years, $35 million, I don't see him agreeing to it.

Donny made the comment last night (several times) that Pierce had 6 more years left in him, which I am not sure about that, but Pierce will end his career a Celtic. I don't see him signing anything more than 3 years right now. He may even do 1 yr deals until he retires. I think he will take significantly less in order to possibly win another ring or two.

I could see him opting out and signing a 3 year deal, with eyes looking towards an additional 2-3 year deal when that one comes up ... or atleast that's what I want to believe.

ideally I'd like 3 years $45mil for the first and then maybe 2 years for $15mil with a team option for a 3rd year at $8mil. Oh how fun it is to dream.

i really think hes going to opt out and resign a 4 yr 30 mil deal. and I also think its going to be backloaded so we have more of an option for next summer.

Paul Pierce is a special person, special player, and True Celtic that will obviously make the sacrifice for the betterment of the team.

I think the chances of him signing for 4 years, $30 million are basically nil.  In effect, he'd be signing a 3 year, $9 million extension.  Winning matters to Pierce, but I doubt he's going to take 20 cents on the dollar.

He would lose almost $14 million that first year (2011) alone. Why would he do that? It makes no sense...
