I truly believe that Rondo is the key to this team being it's best, and that he needs more of that "attack" attitude while KG is on the floor, and not worry so much about stepping on the toes of the superstar players on this team.
Actually, the key to this team has always been keeping everyone involved on each possession.

A big part of why we won in 2008 was the superb ball movement, which kept the opponents guessing and resulted in wide open dunks, layups, and jump shots on multiple occasions.

Last season (as Doc has correctly pointed out), our play degenerated into the superstars taking turns to carry the team on their backs, which instantly relegated us from a great to a good team.

Sure, given that we have several players of amazing skill, even this tactic will work quite often, but for (a) we expend much more energy in executing, and (b) our team is no longer more than the sum of its part.

I don't think adding Rondo to the mix of those who take turns to carry the team is a good idea. I think we should go back to the times when the opposition was guessing where our shots will come from on every possession.

Attack doesn't mean scoring... it simply means just that, attacking the defense. Rondo with his ball handling is the best suited to unbalance a defensive effort, he doesn't need to score, by attacking his simply opening up opportunities for other teammates. When people want Rondo to attack more we aren't really talking about him scoring more, simply putting the pressure on their defense to open up more offensive options for us.

When he doesn't do that, more often than not, our offense stalls a bit.

Specifically it stalls because good teams sag off Rondo and help on the Big 3. Rondo has to make teams guard him at all times.

EXACTLY (TP) He's the one controlling the ball and bringing it down the court, and whether he scores or not, by attacking the paint, he softens up that area and keeps the defense honest. If he could get a consistent jump-shot going, then he would be even more difficult to defend, but for now, opposing teams just let him do mostly what he wants on the perimeter, because he's not much of a threat there. This helps their defense because they can use the extra defender to double-up on Ray, Paul or Kevin. But when Rage attacks the paint, whether he's trying to score or not, it loosens up the interior, and he's either going to get to the basket, draw a foul, or make the defense collapse on him and dish to the open man.

The only way for Rondo to make teams guard him at all times is to be close to the equal of KG/PP/RA on offense. He just needs them to stay with him when he has the ball.

I agree that Rondo is better w/o KG. Last year in the playoffs, Rondo needed to step up and he did; he played his brains out. I also remember distinctively that when KG went out last year, Rondo went on his all-star stretch during the regular season. He just seems more aggressive and looks to score my often. With Paul, Ray, and KG he just seems like in a half court set he just wants to pass the ball and get out of the way.

Become Legendary.

I should have been more clear, he needs to make teams pay when they don't guard him. He often doesn't, its happened both last year and the year before for entire playoff games.

Yeah, I agree ... and attacking the hoop or getting his jump-shot going is pretty much the only way he can make opposing teams pay and keep their defenses honest. (TP)

The first two games of the regular season have been extremely encouraging, especially for the fact that Rondo has been attacking the basket and spreading the offense. If these guys stay healthy and keep running like this and getting into the paint so effectively, there's nobody that can beat them ... nobody.
