I am not sure I see the "need".  We have Ray, Tony, Daniels, Eddie, Giddons, and Hudson who can all play the 2 as probably their most natural position as does Stevenson.  Scal can play as a 3-4 "tweener" where as Stevenson can play as a 2-3 "tweener".

If the perceived need is more bodies at 3, then this is a different body but not any more.

I don't see any need or benefit to this (yes, I like Scal).  Washington can probably get more for Stevenson than we can offer anyway.  Scal is much more valuable to us than he is going to be to anyone else.
I think we need a 2/3 than a 3/4.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Ime Udoka shoulda been had when the having was to be had.

Who knows if he'd have been interested in the role we were willing to offer.

Scalabrine is in no way capable of playing the 3 in the NBA..I don't care what Doc Rivers said...Scalabrine backing up the 3 is his worst idea since trying to use Tony Allen as the main backup pg.

I agree that Deshawn Stevenson is an idiot, but the way this team is built, an idiot can be brought in and he can still help because the leadership is so strong on this team, if we can bring in the biggest idiot in the league and control him in marbury then Stevenson will not be a problem. Kevin Garnett will knock some sense into him...

Deshawn Stevenson may be a little delusional, but since when is it a bad thing to have a little confidence in your own game and think you can compete with anybody? if im not mistaken, Paul Peirce thinks he is the best basketball player in the world, and having Deshawn's mindset is perfect for when you are asked to guard the best player on the other team.

I actually like Scalabrine, and think he has the potential to be useful for the Celtics, however, with Rasheed wallace on this team, one of Scalabrine's best assets in being able to spread the floor is all of a sudden covered by a guy that can also do other things way better then scal, so I don't think he is needed any longer on this team.

I don't think washington can get any better then an expiring contract for him. He had a HORRENDOUS season last season, bad enough that it looked like he didn't belong in the nba. BUT BUT! I still think he can return to his form of 3 seasons ago, where he was in a good playing state and mental state, he was focusing on his defense while he vastly improved his 3 point shooting. To start his career, I believe for the first 8 seasons of his career he averaged no 3 pt makes per game(marquis Daniels bad), but for the past 3 years he averaged more then 1 make per game at around a 40% clip(except last year), this shows me that when Deshawn is in the right frame of mind he is a player that works hard to improve the weaknesses of his game, I have reason to believe that the winning atmosphere here would quickly give him the right frame of mind again.

What if it was guaranteed that Scalabrine were to be bought out by the Wizards and then the understanding would be that he would resign with the Celtics?

First off, TP for the right idea. Scal can't guard 3's. He can't do it in practice in drills, let alone in a real game. I would only do this trade though if as you suggested, that Scal would be bought out.
But after reading Caron Butlers thread a bit ago, Washington seems to like their team as is, and Stevenson is part of that core group of dudes. Their team only lacks a true PG to be sick.
Can't stop, Rondo!

True PG or not until that team shows any kind of commitment to defense, they'll never be contenders.
