(if) Lester Hudson makes the team! (trade idea)

Then we make the following trade:

Chicago Bulls send Kirk Hinrich, Derrick Byars and a 2010 and 2011 second round pick

Boston Celtics send Brian Scalabrine, Eddie House and Tony Allen with a 2012 first rounder and cash

Bulls have nearly 9 million in expiring contracts, a future first rounder and replace (nearly) Ben Gordons 3pt shooting with Eddie House. They use the cash to buy out Tony Allen.

The Celtics add a versatile stud to their 2nd unit in Hinrich that can play all the back up SG or PG minutes they need. This allows Quisy to play backup SG and SF minutes. Both guys see 20+ minutes per nite and Hudson is their Back up at PG/SG.

We discard Byars who is not guaranteed and have only 13 roster spots committed. Leaves us room to add a player that we like after camp or later in the season if we need one. Danny gets 2 more future 2nd round picks to find role players that slip through the cracks.

The Bulls would not do this.  They already have a lot of capspace for next summer, and won't trade away one of their best players in return for expiring contracts and a role player or two.  As good as Eddie is, he's a role player.  You undervalue Hinrich thinking this trade has anything resembling likelihood in the real world.

Hinrich would be a big defensive boost off the bench. I don't see us giving the Bulls enough value though.

Both of you certainly could be right. I think that the Bulls will start: Rose, Salmons, Deng, Thomas and Noah. Off the bench they have Brad Miller, Pargo, Lindsay Hunter and the rookie Johnson. Very light in the 3pt shooting or jump shooting at all for that matter. Hinrich doesnt make that big of a difference. Scalabrine and House are both better shooters than what they have other than Miller off the bench.

They are still 20 million or so under the cap next year after resigning Thomas and Miller (if they still have Hinrich). They can use that space to add a big name FA like D Wade who would fit perfectly for them.

Trading Hinrich gives them more space to add a couple of pieces in place of his salary.

Tempting trade except I'd take the picks out of the equation.  At that point Danny's going to need 1st round picks.

Also, after seeing how consistent Eddie has been shooting in pre-season, I'm reluctant to move him in a trade at this point.  I'm skeptical Danny even moves Scal and TA at the deadline with the way everyone is currently contributing.

Unfortunately, I don't think Chicago does it without the first round pick.  Now that they have lost Gordon, Hinrich is a very important part of their rotation.

Certainly they wouldn't mind getting him off the books this year, but they need to get something for him. 

Now, if February comes around, and they are not competing for the playoffs, and no one is offering more for Hinrich, then, perhaps the C's could lowball him, but at this point, a couple expiring contracts are not going to get them Hinrich without some sort of sweetener.
