Great movie -- a Hollywood accounting with fictitious names based on the Scopes Monkey Trial with Spencer Tracy as Clarence Darrow character defending John Scopes character against the William Jennings Bryan character (Bryan was a bible-toting politician who ran several times unsuccessfully for president). Interesting note: the 'Scopes' character was played by a young Dick York whose claim to fame was being the first Darren on Bewitched.
I recommend the film for those who don't mind a little bit of hokie mixed in with some good acting and a timeless American freedom of speech story. Also shows how much America has changed in a fairly short time (actual trial was 1925).
