IMO he shouldn't lose any weight...

If you are able to make a game winner playoff shot, to even the series at 250 or 350 pounds...YOU'RE JUST FINE MY FRIEND

A 350 lb nfl linebacker might make a fluke game winning shot at the buzzer, doesn't mean he's a good nba player

282.5 lb.

I don't think the Celtics want him to lose too much weight.  The cutoff might be something like 280 (Perk's weight).  They probably want him to still be able to push around down low like Powe used to.

Ahhhh, I miss that man.
Philly:

David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels

Well Powe is only listed at 240lbs and they are both 6'8".

Yeah but Powe was just that strong.  We know Baby is also that strong, so we don't want him to lose any power.  We just want him to be able to grab rebounds like Powe did.  If he can simply replace the weight with muscle, that would allow him to take over Powe's role completely.  But if we asked him to just straight lose weight over the summer down to 270, he'd end up losing a bit of his strength.

He is looking pretty chiseled, but like he said he got rid of fat and replaced it with muscle. May be good for UFC; but not for NBA. Needs to lose weight and work on his vert. not just horizontal movement and balance.

As you lose fat, vertical automatically improves.  280 would be fine.

About what you said about Powe and his rebounding:

I don't think Baby will ever be able to rebound like Powe, because rebounding is a skill, and not something that dropping a few pounds or getting more muscular will improve. Sure, it might make him a little better, but Leon was a great, great rebounder, and rebounding is one of those "you either have it or you don't" things. Leon had it, Baby doesn't really, and being more in shape isn't going to suddenly make him have it--although marginal improvement is certainly plausible.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

I think improvement can be a little more than marginal.  There's no reason that Davis can't learn how to grab more rebounds.  Losing weight and being able to jump higher and quicker will only help him.

Some people are just naturally good at rebounding, but it's not fair to say Davis doesn't have the skill so he'll never be able to rebound like Powe.

Well, I mean, his defensive rebounding has been horrible for his entire career. I don't think you can exactly blame that all on his weight. Most of rebounding is anticipation and positioning, something that even fat guys can have.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
