How does he do it? Year after year he comes into camp with such a striking physique. What is his secret?

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I wouldn't expect Scal to be overly sharp to start the pre-season, as he didn't participate in basketball activities at all due to his concussion.

(Of course, he probably could have still practiced in non-contact drills, but that's beside the point.)

If Scal came in looking all cut I'd want him tested twice a day every day for a long time as a matter of principal

He looked horrible last year too. Most, if not all of us were wrong with our expectations. I had been a Scal supporter for the most part, but the way he was playing during the preseason was just completely horrible. So I'll try to reserve judgement on him until the season is underway.

I remember how out of shape Scal was when he first donned the Celtics green. Not only was he embarrassingly fat throughout that entire 05-06 season, his play left much to be desired.

Scalabrine has shown periods of hope. If I were to suggest otherwise, I'd be lying. The concussion he suffered last year impeded unfathomable progress. With all those 3's he was making, in addition to stellar defensive effort (in spurts), he was effectively replacing James Posey.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I know he had a concussion, and I know he might not have the genetics to be 'ripped', and I know he gives all of his effort everytime he is on the floor, and I know he is more of a coach than an athlete, but geez, I really wish he would try just a little bit harder to be in shape for the start of the season. He makes too much money- all that being said, I have definitely grown to be a Scal fan...

Felt bad for him with the concussion. Is not so much this season but in general. Perhaps its unfair criticism, I do like what he does as a player.
