TP for the Scal love. I've been loving Scals these past few years. I do have to admit that he was absolutely frustrating to watch prior to the '07-'08 season but pretty much everyone was tough to watch during some of those years. I just loved how during that championship season he was so classy and was everything "team" first. He wasn't even on the playoff roster which must have been frustrating having a rookie (baby) and others ahead of you. But he took it off the chin like a champ and was still all about team dressed in street clothes on the sideline. He had a tough year this past year injury wise but I thought he played very well when he was on the court and was such a pleasant surprise in the playoffs. I hope he continues to play well during the limited minutes he will get and hopefully have an impact on the team on or off the court. I can't help but route for him

Interview from 2005  ;)

"What was your welcome-to-the-NBA moment?
It wasn't until last season [his third] when I scored 17 points and hit four three-pointers in a playoff game against Detroit. I knew then that I could excel in tough spots in this league.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
My third game as a rookie I went to check in, and I didn't have my jersey on under my warmups. To this day I check three or four times to make sure I haven't forgotten it.

Favorite off-day activity?
Going in and working out with no coaches around or anybody. I have the facility to myself, and I can just work on my fadeaway jumper, or whatever, without anyone telling me what to do.

If I were commissioner for a day, I'd ...
Make the game more run-and-gun. I'd give teams an extra point for scoring in the first six seconds of the shot clock. I'd cut the time you have to get over midcourt from eight to seven seconds. And I'd drop the shot clock from 24 to 20 seconds."

Wow, total fail on that first question, Scal.  For the top four big men of all time, he lists Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, and Perk?  I get the Perk joke, but when deciding the greats to leave off in his place, the guy I would have not omitted would be Bill Russell.  When he had time to amend his answer, he *still* didn't pick Russell (choosing Hakeem).

Boo!

(Perk picked Shaq, Hakeem, Russell, and himself.  I think that's a fair answer. ;))

I like his ideas for making the game more run and gun.
But come on Scal.  How do you forget your jersey?
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Actually, there is a good article in the Globe about Scal:

"Asked the difference between small forward and power forward, he said, “Besides everything? The situation is what it is. There are guys better than me in the rotation. My responsibility is to remain ready, because a guy could go down with a sprained ankle and I may need to play seven minutes at [small forward] or 10 minutes at [power forward].

I’m not playing for playing time. I’m playing to do my job.’’
