Someone check the thermometer in Hell: the NBA is banning handshakes and endorsing the fist pound as acceptable "sanitary" greetings among players and coaches during this flu season:

As Charles Barkely might say, David Stern is rolling in his grave right now.

A little weird, I think the players running around sweating all over each other would matter more than a handshake...

If you sweat on one of the three chosen ones (Lebron, Kobe and Wade) you are getting wistle for a foul already.  This just takes away the only legal contact allowed for those three players.

Tell Bron Bron to chill with the powder and throw around hand sanitizer instead.  Then, tell him to get his crybaby a** out there and shake some hands.

SHHHH I work for a big evil company that has been going crazy with contingency plans for swine flu, "workshops" on how to take care of yourself (so THAT's how you wash your hands!) and distributing anti-flu sanitary materials.

I kind of poked around the ladder and found out it is most likely due to a government promise to assist companies that are devastated by H1N1 *if* they take precautionary measures early.

Maybe a similar situation here.  Who knows what kind of experts are being brought in to tell the players not to stand next to coughing people in the snow.

The fist-bump is the greatest invention since facial tissue.

If Obama can make the country a little more germ phobic, I'm all for it!  This is a dream come true.

Rondo will definitely approve of this decision.  Probably Ray too.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

I like the fist bump.   I don't understand newfangled handshakes and since I'm only in my 20s... I feel like a massive dweeb everytime I greet people my age.  I never know what the heck I'm supposed to do... too much thumb looping and snapping... I always come out looking a lot more awkward.    The fist bump is a welcome alternative for someone like me.   But I feel like you can't introduce yourself with a fist bump.   That'd be really strange, wouldn't it?   "Hey nice to meet you... *bump*"... I try to avoid meeting new people for this reason.

Well, thank you for bringing up the tricky handshake thing.  I am over 50 and am clueless once someone employs a slide move off a simple handshake.  I don't know what to do.  You are correct that the fist-bump is currently unacceptable as a formal introduction alternative. But...perhaps if we all just do it - sorta like when George Costanza ate his Snickers with a knife and fork - perhaps it'll catch on.
We can change the world!
