I never liked shaking opponents hands anyway, but I sure as hell am not fist pounding.

If I'm a player I'm eating a huge thing of pork and then shaking hands with everyone.

If people are like "Why aren't you fist pounding" I'm like "For the same reason I don't get a tatoo"

I like the fist bump.   I don't understand newfangled handshakes and since I'm only in my 20s... I feel like a massive dweeb everytime I greet people my age.  I never know what the heck I'm supposed to do... too much thumb looping and snapping... I always come out looking a lot more awkward.    The fist bump is a welcome alternative for someone like me.   But I feel like you can't introduce yourself with a fist bump.   That'd be really strange, wouldn't it?   "Hey nice to meet you... *bump*"... I try to avoid meeting new people for this reason.

That's funny, I too am in my 20's and when I moved from RI to California, I was caught off guard completely by the fist bump.

See, in CA, the fist bump is the standard and I was a east coast slap/slide/snap kind of guy.  Now its the opposite, I'll meet up with my old east coast buddies and try and fist bump them, and then they aren't down.  I find myself resorting to the old tried and true full hand grip, but that just makes me feel like I'm getting old...

Slap and slide with the reverse pull, all the way.  It's not complicated, and as soon as you start the motion, if the other person is hip they know what to do.  Unlike with a complex six stepper which is NOT universal.  Of course in a formal setting it's a simple handshake.

This is a really interesting conversation.

What happens if the player "misses" on the fist pump and knocks out the other player?

Whew, thank god that got cleared up.

We came dangerously close to acknowledging that new fangled hip hop culture, and that our players might not have the same social views. I'm glad someone thought of the children.

I was worried the NBA might sanction a little fun instead of vanilla.   ;D
