liposuction.
This was probably meant as a joke, but yes, liposuction!  If the guy really cared, wouldn't he have invested in stomach stapleing and liposuction?  He could have turned $
25,000 into $70 million.

Liposuction doesn´t solve the problem for people with eating disorders. He had had some personal problems that probably made him eat more and get this heavy.

The guy is surely talented, but I wonder if a team like the C´s can wait for him to get in shape...

Would love to see him succeed in the league, though. Talent is talent, and he surely has some
True, but he would be a thinner guy with an eating disorder.

He would get his weight back very fast after the liposuction. Why do we want to wish this for the person himself or for our team?

The weight is the result of a problem, that basketball-wise has also become a problem for his career. What it would be desirable to do would be to understand and treat the source of his disorder. That way, he would progressively lose the extra weight and it would be less plausible to be regained in the near future at least.

I sincerelly wish the best for Sweetney as a player and a person. That said, this is pro sports and the Celtics also need to look for their interests. Ideally he would solve his problems here and he could take part of our championship quest
Sometimes people just need to get over that hurdle.  There's a big difference between maintaining weight and losing it.  So you can't say he'd definitely gain the weight back quickly.

What people seem to be forgetting is, most of his game is due to his size.  He's really not THAT talented.  So if he were to lose the weight, he'd also lose his biggest asset.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Don't want Sweetney.  Every point he gets on offense, he gives back on defense.

Yea, he's clearly skilled on offense, but couldn't cover my grandmother and has a long way to go before he could cover anyone. Tell him to lose 70 pounds and then come see us.

Disagree.  Sweetney's got pretty soft hands and a nice touch around the basket, that's not related to his size.  There's no reason he wouldn't not only be in the NBA, but a rotation player, if he were anywhere near his listed 275#.  Dude can play offense, at least, he USED to be a good rebounder (no now, he can't see his feet much less move them).  No D, but that's why he'd be a rotation player and not a starter.

It's all moot, there's skill there but it's buried underneath a half-Rondo worth of cheesburgers.

if you are going to roll the dice on a player who can contribute in a year, who would have the biggest pay-off?  Sweetney, walker, giddens or tony allen?   I think hudson is going to make the club, that is why i didn't list him.  i would say of the 4 of them that i am least optimistic on the future contributions of giddens.   The others can be at least be good bench players perhaps more.

If this was Mike Sweetney from the Knicks days, I'd say let go of Shelden and keep him. He played great for the Knicks back in the day, but...

happened.

Yeah, I feel sorta bad for Sweetney.  No way he makes the team, but I hope for his own good that he works his way into shape and gets back to pro ball.  He is probably good enough to catch on with a D-League team.

I think him and Baby could be horridly bad influences on each other. On the other hand having Sweetney here could get Baby to think "Holy geeze. I don't want to get like that"

if he had liposuction he would still be out of shape, and weaker, and still would have to bust his ass to get in shape... why not just let him exercise to get in shape while losing weight at the same time. It's alot healthier and he would be alot stronger....

Also, I dont think Michael Sweetney has any underlying problems to his weight problems...He probably jsut really likes eating and when he got his first injury he kept eating while not playing basketball and so he just gained weight and had a hard time losing it. His underlying problem is that he's a fat Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline....

So, let's get physical.

Sweetney has post moves, rebounds, blocks shots and is physical.  As Tommy would say, "He plays down on the box."

Keep him over Giddens, Hudson or T. Allen.

Silliness.  Giddens, Hudson and Tony Allen have athleticism, can play D and can fast break.  Foolish idea.  If he stays, its over Scalabrine and Williams.  We don't need a Power Foward to back up Glen Davis who backs up, Wallace and Garnett.

However, Sweetney does play in the paint and does have skills.

The tread "The only reason Sweetney is here..." looks alot like this one and should merge with this one.

Tommy said he thinks Sweetney will make the team...Hmmmm

If the C's do not win the title it will probably be because of the Lakers or Cavaliers frontcourts overpowering us NOT their backcourts.

If Sweetney can hang around and get in shape by then, he will be much more valuable than Giddens, Tony Allen or Hudson.

Baby, Scal, and Williams are not playoff rotation caliber players against the league's elite frontcourts and Ainge knows it.  Sweetney could be an offense post up player we need off the bench.

Everyone wants truth on his side, not everyone wants to be on the side of truth.

well, that is certainly one depressing set of pix right there. talk about letting yourself go.

i just wonder if the 2009 is actually THINNER than the 2008 version?

by the way...tp for the pix.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

Wow.  Can't that guy spend the summer on "The Biggest Loser" and lose like 100 pounds in a few months?  Come on... what gives?
