Per the Herald:

Hudson gets deal

Rookie Lester Hudson, who has worked out patiently all summer without a contract, walked onto the floor with a new one-year deal in hand.

“I was very anxious about it,” he said. “But it’s a great feeling. I got to work out with all of the guys on this team.”

Hudson appears to be the last guard - and the 15th man - on the roster.

I'm fine with this move. Let the youngster learn from the vets. I like this better than signing an over aged or below average vet.

YES. I'm so siked on this kid, he's a good scorer and a strong kid for a PG. I think he can make the cut.

Edit: He's not a kid, he's older than Rondo, Perk, Giddens, Walker, and Baby.

I trust Danny. But my gut feeling is we should have gone with a vet like Bobby Jackson.

This is not a guaranteed deal, because otherwise Mike Sweetney wouldn't be here to fight for the last spot.

Now that makes a lot more sense. Although Sweetny is really not what we need. I don't see why we need a 7 man rotation at the 4-5 positions.

No one else is gonna sign him, and since he played in summer league with us a little he at least knows our stuff. With that in mind I don't think it's ocmpletely unreasonable that he'd come in. After all, we can have 200 players if we wanted as long as we cut it down to 15 in late October or November.

Yeah.  Sweetney will take whatever crumbs are thrown his way.

Nothing I've read indicates that EITHER contract is guaranteed.  Guys don't come to camp without signing at least a non-guaranteed contract, do they?  They've got to get paid while they're in camp.

A little surprised (and intrigued) by the Sweetney news.  *IF* he's in shape, I remember him being a pretty good scorer down low (one of those guys that the New York media blew up into being a much better prospect than he was, but a good player nonetheless).

A little surprised that Bobby Swift wasn't the 16th man; he looked slow in summer league, maybe he just hasn't progressed.  A little surprised as well that it wasn't a point guard, although it wouldn't be surprising to find out that Bobby Jackson got an invite and declined it (wanting guaranteed money) before they invited Sweetney in.

So the words "new one-year deal in hand" is NOT guaranteed? It is. There's a difference between a "training camp contract" and a one-year contract. Miles signed a training camp contract last year. Anyone who attends a training camp will sign a contract if they're smart. That's non-guaranteed. A one-year contract means if he is cut, he will still have to be paid. Sweetney is hoping to take someone's spot which I doubt will happen unless DA plans on unloading someone via trade in a 2-for-1 deal or something of the sort.

Where's "guaranteed" in that?  How would you describe a non-guaranteed deal?  I'd wager that there's a partial guarantee, or one of those deals where if he's on the roster on some date in December, the entire contract is guaranteed, but there's nothing in "one year contract" that necessarily equals "one year guaranteed contract."

Maybe it's me but again, the words ONE-YEAR DEAL means that if he was to get cut, he will still get paid for that ONE YEAR. Why would they sign him to a ONE YEAR DEAL just to "see" is he will make it in camp?

By the way, this part of your post puzzles me. BJ probably wanted GUARANTEED money...isn't that what Lester got by signing a one year deal? What is guaranteed money if it's not signing a contract for a specific number of years?

Help me on this one.
