Not sure if this has been posted/discussed already, but I got a good chuckle out of it, especially the comments.

Let the haters hate.

The funniest thing to me was the comments section where someone was complaining about PP getting easy foul calls.  I have never heard that one before.  Pierce gets absolutely no respect from the refs compared to other elite players.

And for the record,

The Celtics have to care about the hawks before there can be a rivalry.  I would say Toronto/Philly would make a better rival for them because our only rival is LA.

Hate to side with a bandwagon Hawks fan, but in my book Paul is one of the more savvy players in terms of drawing the attention of the refs (and their whistles).  I wouldnt say he draws "easy foul calls" because anyone who attacks the basket like Paul does is bound to draw contact, but he certainly puts a lot of...emotion...into those drives.

Drawing fouls is a part of the game, and great players understand that.  But Paul does his fair share of flailing and grunting at the basket.  Even watching on TV you can literally hear him "crying" out in pain when he gets bodied by a defender in the air.  He also makes sure to throw in a scowl or ten towards the refs every game.

Again, i'm not saying Paul gets hand-outs from refs, but he cerainly knows how to manipulate them with the best.

Funny, I'd never heard of the Hawks, looked em up, apparently they're a professional basketball team in Atlanta. Huh, who knew?

This is a rivalry like the Buffalo Bills vs NE Patriots....sure, they hate us and want to beat us, but do we really see it as a rivalry?  No.

The Hawks are a decent team, don't get me wrong.  But I have no fear about us versus them in a 7 game series.  At all.
Never forget the Champs of '08, or the gutsy warriors of '10.

Definitely, Pierce is one of the best in the league at drawing and selling contact.  The problem is that he sometimes has trouble getting calls while driving to the rim when he actually does get fouled, probably partly because the refs know he plays up contact and partly because sometimes he's actually faking but the crowded lane makes it hard for us to tell.

PS on topic: The guy getting ticked because people are making the obvious point that you can't call it a rivalry until the Hawks win something is hilarious.  Did they even beat us once last year?

You know, when Paul made that shot my reaction was so ridicuously over the top a neighbor came over to see if everything was alright. True story.

Anyway, who cares about the Hawks? Mike Bibby can take his bad teeth and do whatever there is to do in Atlanta, I don't care. Either way... Ron-do's Bet-ter.

Yeah, they're not a rival, but both teams definitely get up to play each other.  Those games were some of the best of the year, and made even better by the fact that the Hawks got further away from beating us every game.  I look forward to playing them, I'll give em that.

My favorite part is: "You're completely ignoring the history between these two teams. Look at 08 to now."

...okay, so he did follow that with a ten-year claim, but still. That gave me a chuckle.

It takes more than a playoff series and some commentary by Bibby to make a rivalry.

They are, as of right now, a slightly-above-average team with some upside.  Their meaningful history as a franchise begins and ends with one player.  Claiming to be a rival to the most successful team in NBA history would make them seem relevant.

Come on, guys... cut them some slack.  If it lets them sleep better at night, let them believe that they matter.  While we smile and nod our heads, we can inwardly delight in the fact that the other 29 NBA teams know the truth.

...is that mean?  ;D

They're gonna really hate us once we sign JJ in 2010 to replace Ray.  ;)
