Jack McClinton Waived... Should the Celtics invite him to camp?

Spurs Waive Jack McClinton

 The San Antonio Spurs announced today that they have waived guard Jack McClinton.

The 6-1, 185-pound, McClinton was drafted by San Antonio in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft, 51st overall. He was signed on 9/14.

The Spurs roster stands at 18.

I for one think we should give him invite to camp...I mean if he isn't good enough then we're back to where we are now. He is similar to Eddie House but to me a better ball-handler.

Guys like Jack Mc are going to be dropping from team rosters like rain over the next 2-3 weeks. We can only play so many in training camp and get the necessary teaching time in for the ones we will keep.

The time for auditions was Summer League. If he was impressive there, somone will scoop him up. Most likely it will be D league or overseas for most of the roster cuts. Still fun to watch them and see if anyone gets picked up.

He sounds like a nice player. He's got the shooting touch we'd want from a backup point and he seems to be able to handle the ball. The typical nice college player who just isn't fast, big, or tall enough in the eyes of scouts.

He's going to be 25 on January 19th, he doesn't need time and experience lower levels to get it.  I'ts either you think he has it now or he won't get it.  I think he could have it but maybe you're right and maybe he won't get it.

Judging from his play in SL -- he's not a point guard and he's a liability in every area of basketball outside of shooting.

Jack McClinton is much more know than Leste Hudson.  He played in the ACC... Lester played in the Ohio Valley Conference.  The Ohio Valley Conference what?  Until we drafted Lester I'm sure most people on the site never heard of the conference.  McClinton averaged 19 points in the ACC.  That is pretty good.  I'd say much better than 27 in the OVC!

He's 25 years old.  He doesn't have much time (if any) to improve and become an NBA player.  Lester is also 25 so a guy from the OVC is more NBA ready than a guy from the ACC.  I doubt it.  (but maybe Lester will work out you never know... I'd take my chance with a guy from the ACC rather than a player from the OVC though.)

The kid played at UM. He didn't play at Duke or UNC or NC State or GT or even at BC. He played at the University of Miami who is only in the ACC in basketball because their football program wants to be in the very lucrative ACC football conference.

Your logic is like saying a football player at Duke is a better prospect than a player in the MAC because he played on an ACC team and not a MAC team. Duke is a horrid football program and is in the ACC in football specifically so they can be in the lucrative ACC basketball league.

For all intents and purposes, players on really bad overall programs from big conferences should never be looked at as a better prospect than from someone from a lesser conference simply because of where they played or who they played. It doesn't work that way.

If you are a BC fan I would think you would know who are the better players in your conference.  They've been in the NCAA tornament two straight years before last year which is pretty good so they are not a really bad overall program from a big conference they are just not of the elite like Duke and UNC.  If you are the star of one of the schools in one of the BCS conferences that made it to the NCAA tornament 2 of the 3 years you've been there (it was only 3 because he transfered from Siena) then you are a pretty good player.
