I dont think a team who is over the cap can claim a guy off of waivers. If CLE were ever interested in dumping Delonte, it would make more sense to trade him. And I dont see Cleveland trading anyone of value to BOS.

Yea. No matter how Cleveland feels about Delonte's mindset, they're not going to trade 1 of there starters to their EC rivals. 2 reasons. He knows their system, so we'd be a step ahead of them. Plus he's a great player and fills 2 holes for us. Backup PG and can guard larger SG so Daniels can play SF.
Can't stop, Rondo!

The discussion begs the question, if they do decide to get rid of Delonte, I wonder after all the off the court revelations and now some of his problems about being late or moody in the locker room coming to the fore front, what the Cavs could realistically get for West? His trade value has to have taken a fall and it should be interesting to see how they handle the problem since he might be worth very little in the trade market.

  • Rondo = Good
He's not going to get released or traded.  He'll be suspended for 5-10 games probably and they'll have to start Anthony Parker, meaning LeBron will have to do even more than he usually does (makes Larry Brown's job even easier than it already is).

no way

I find it amusing how almost every player from the pre-Big 3 era who is no longer on the team is consistently maligned and underrated on this blog; sure, we have our "Bring Back Toine" posts and our "Sign Gerald Green" posts, but overall I can't help noticing the eagerness of people to just jump all over any role player who played in green before 2008 - most of them were never great, but they aren't deserving of the categorical revulsion they seem to get from the majority of the people here.

Delonte West is not a great player, but he's not bad either, and it's ridiculous to say that you wouldn't want him on this team as a backup if another team released him and all he wanted was the minimum.

Of course, nothing of the sort is going to happen, so it's kind of a moot point in any case.

Lol, this is just coming from me and me only: I am thinking the reason why some smart fans may not be interested in bringing back former Celtics from the "pre big 3" era is because they stunk up the TD Banknorth Garden. Let me ask you: Why does it make sense in your mind to bring back players that were part of losing teams and lean years?

i love dwest, but the dude's psycho...he needs to play for a florida or texas team...sunshine is good for helping fight depression...

Luckily, the sun doesn't stop shining because of cold weather and snow. It does make you not want to go out and tan with snow on the ground. I have a solution to this, though. We could give Delonte some money for an apartment in Boston and then build an extension. Said extension would be a heated solarium.

Boom, Delonte gets his sun and fights his depression and we get him back. Maybe he's depressed cause he isn't playing for the Celtics anymore? He seemed awful happy when we wrote that piece for ESPN on valentines day a few years back.

sign west, resign starbury, trot them out with rasheed and TA and you have yourself the makings of a very heady second unit :-).

I don't think the Cavs are stupid enough to do that. Im not a West fan at all, but I don't see them taking the risk of letting West go to the Magic, Celtics, Lakers, Spurs, etc. If anything he gets suspended a few games. I hope they trade him or dump him next offseason though. I can't stand him.

I know the Cavs front office is terrible and are only good because of the luck of the ping pong balls to get Lebron, even they are not so stupid to just waive Delonte West.

Just because they were part of a losing team doesn't make them worth nothing.  Name one player who was never on a losing team.

You can acknowledge that a guy like Delonte is not an all-star, and still want him on your team.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Agreed.  As I recall, Paul Pierce was on those losing teams, too.
