I would trade them TA for Delonte straight up.   ;)

Along with cash to cut TA? that would be more enticing.

But on another note i'd love to have DWest back, dude has problems and needs serious help. It was obvious that he loved it here and i think he could be in a good situation. Plus the fact that if he can come through this a Rondo/West backcourt is a force to be reckoned with.

no way

I find it amusing how almost every player from the pre-Big 3 era who is no longer on the team is consistently maligned and underrated on this blog; sure, we have our "Bring Back Toine" posts and our "Sign Gerald Green" posts, but overall I can't help noticing the eagerness of people to just jump all over any role player who played in green before 2008 - most of them were never great, but they aren't deserving of the categorical revulsion they seem to get from the majority of the people here.

Delonte West is not a great player, but he's not bad either, and it's ridiculous to say that you wouldn't want him on this team as a backup if another team released him and all he wanted was the minimum.

Of course, nothing of the sort is going to happen, so it's kind of a moot point in any case.

I am not one of those people. There are plenty of players pre Big 3 era that we would love to have back, Chanucey, Joe Jackson, Big Al to name a few. With what has been going on recently with Delonte that is a crazy thing that just happened.

Joe Jackson?  When was Michael's dad on the Celtics?  Did he win a few rings as a benchwarmer in the 60's?

Oh oh you mean Joe JOHNSON?

According to an article on realgm at the moment, the Cav's are unsure how to handle the Delonte situation. If they do choose to release him, do we make a bid to sign him as our backup PG given his troubles?
I can't see him earning more than the minimum if the Cavs release him. It Could perhaps be a good thing for him to come to Boston...

Would I like Delonte back? No or heck no: Which do you prefer? There are other players in the NBA I would rather have. And besides, if someone could tell me what the fascination is on this board with Delonte West, I would appreciate it.

He shoots, can defend 1's and 2's, hustles, has shown he can hit clutch shots. Nice argument dude. What other players, it Delonte West were released today, would you rather have? If you can come  up with one name I would be shocked. The fact that there is no way Cleveland will release him should be an indicator to you that he is a quality NBA player who started for a 66 win team and would be a luxury in a backup role for us. The OP's question was really easy and you got it wrong. And if you're going to be so wrong about something, at least come with a stronger argument.

Telfair was maligned for carrying a gun on the plane and people couldn't wait for the "thug" to be trade, but it's ok for Delonte West?

Sorry, don't want him and his problems.

And I doubt the Celtics would line up to grab him should Cleveland let him go given all his problems and his illegal activity (I don't believe Cleveland will let him go anyway - too much money).

Now THIS is a better argument. I still would bring him here but I get the point. For short money though I would take the chance with Delonte's issues and bank on the fact that he has continued, when healthy , to perform through his problems.

Not that I think there's any way Cle releases him, but I'd consider signing him over Hudson provided Delonte commits to getting the help he needs.  He's have to be completely evaluated psychologically first before he's signed just to make sure he's not going to become unmanageable and a locker room issue.

I don't know enough about West to render a decision, but West's track record off the court is a major, major concern. I'm not willing to just bring him back because he was one of Danny's beloved draft picks.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Supposedly when he and the Cavs were negotiating we contacted them trying to setup a sign and trade. I think Danny would be extremely interested if he were to bet cut.

But it is not going to happen.

We'd be bringing him back for a minimum deal under this "what if" though. So what's the risk, he could always be cut if he was an awful distraction.

The potential gain with a player of his caliber over Tyrone Lue/Lester Hudson/etc. type of player we're currently looking at for our last roster spot is huge.

I love Delonte. I met him a couple of times. really good guy who always seemed willing to take that extra second to be a person and not a star.

That said, if he is released or bought out of his contract because he can't maintain his mental health and it is becoming a distraction in Cleveland, which I assume is the only reason the Cavs would release him or buy him out, I don't want him here.

Listen, I'm bi-polar too and at a young age it is very difficult, due to the stigma of mental illness and it's perceptions, especially growing up in poorer less educated neighborhoods, to admit that this is something that effects you. You fight it and self medicate thinking alcohol or weed or drugs is normal in making you feel better. But it's not and only exacerbates the situation.

For young, strong, athletic individuals that can do just about anything physically to admit they have a mental issue and then go through the due diligence of changing your entire lifestyle so that one can remain mentally stable is difficult to the point of near impossibility.

And at that stage of the condition, people tend to make horrible employees and only bring more problems and drama and instability to a situation. If Delonte is still at that progression of his condition, stay away from him because the net effect will be a negative.

It all depends on the exit strategy.

Why would the Cavs release him? Just take the guns away.

Please please please please please please don't let Delonte West end up back on the Celtics ever! What are you trying to ruin my week before it starts having to worry about this guy coming back? Thanks alot for putting the fear in my heart that Delonte could return, if it happens I'm 100% Red Claws all year, I can't watch that guy play on a daily basis its quite simply torture.
