And even if he is found guilty, if I hear D has been getting death threats and was trying to protect himself, I'll say that's cool. Go Rambo. I would if I thought there was a very real and credible threat to my person or my family.

I disagree with this.  Like with all players (and people who can afford it in our society) if Delonte needs protection, he should hire body guards.  He shouldn't be going around in public strapped with multiple weapons, driving fancy motorcycles at high rates of speed.  There's very little justification for illegally carrying around two loaded handguns and a loaded shotgun.  If Delonte is really scared, he should hire somebody who knows what they're doing.

Any time I hear about a young guy like Delonte being scared (like his father says he is), the first things I think are "drugs" and/or "gangs".  Hopefully Delonte is involved with neither.

BINGO!  We got BINGO!  He can't let go of his past.  Sad but true.  He reminds of the kid you hung around in high school who was a punk and thught he was cool by acting differently and seeking attention.  Back when you're in high school everyone think its funny or cool.  Flash forward 10 to 15 years and when that same kid in high school is now a man and is still acting the same way now as he did back then, you don't look at him as funny or cool but as a sad pathetic trainwreck.  All I can say its a good thing he has hoops or else be in jail or dead by now.

Apparently he was charged with two counts of carrying a hand gun. Now perhaps those hand guns are licensed elsewhere. I don't know but the paperwork is still not complete on the matter almost a day later, so we will see what sticks.

Thanks for the links.  TP.  Back in the "good old days," we would have had a Roy Hobbs post detailing the Maryland statutes and the possible penalties.  But now that Roy is a highfalutin' executive ...

I don't care how small your manhood is. No one should be carrying weapons.

I haven't done a lot of research into it, but in Maryland the penalty for a 1st offense of unlawful wearing / carrying a handgun is a minimum of 30 days, and a maximum of 3 years.  A second offense is a minimum of 1 year, and a maximum of 10 years.  It will be interesting to see if the prosecutor treats each carrying offense as part of the same transaction, or rather as two individual crimes that "stack".

Reading the actual language of the statute, I'd say that Delonte is looking at 30 days.  I'm sure he'll plead that down to probation and a suspended sentence, however.

I predict some community service is in Delonte's future

just a small update on Delonte fellas.  i dont know how much stock to put into this, but take it for what it's worth.  I live down in the DC area and they were talking about Delonte this morning and the DJ said that he heard the police are dropping the charges in regards to the shotgun, but he is getting charged for the two handguns.  also, the bike he was on was a trike (3 wheels, and also the reason why i had never heard of the type of bike they said it was)  so thats why he was able to ride with all that weight.  He also said the cop car that he cut off was a Marked cop car.....what an idiot.  also he said he read delonte immediately owned up to having the guns, police apparently didnt even need to ask if he had any weapons on him.......if all this is true it almost sounds like delonte wanted to get arrested.

That's consistent with what the Washington Post reported:

Quote
Delonte West, 26, a graduate of Greenbelt's Eleanor Roosevelt High School and a guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers, was traveling north on the Beltway in a three-wheeled motorcycle called a Can-Am Spyder when he cut off a Prince George's canine officer near Route 214, authorities said. The officer pulled over West for making an "unsafe lane change," police said, and when the officer approached the motorcycle, West told him he had a handgun in his waistband.

That prompted the officer to call for backup and search West's vehicle. He found three guns -- a Beretta 9mm in West's waistband, a Ruger .357 magnum strapped to his leg and a shotgun in a guitar case slung over his back, said Maj. Andy Ellis, a spokesman for the Prince George's police.

Police charged West with two criminal counts of carrying a handgun for the Ruger and the Beretta, and issued him a traffic citation for driving "in excess of reasonable and prudent speed," court records show. Ellis said West was within his rights to carry the shotgun.

Can someone clarify this for me? If Delonte had permits for all of the guns then he is within his rights to carry and transport all three but he could have been arrested for carrying the handguns in a concealed fashion, is that correct?

other than unsaffe lane change.
Is there any else illegal in this one?
carrying in the case for example, i think thats what my boxer lover friend was implying ?
I am curious, here things are different , he seems to behave in right manner and just using licensed weapons so in this country thats just day to day. :-\
