Paul mentioned Tony Allen.
Coming off the bench.
Yay.

Yeah, that did make me throw up in my mouth a little. Maybe he's just talking him up for a trade?

Paul Pierce is a known Tony Allen supporter.

Watch the video again. Doc Rivers is present, no? Can coaches attend drills before camp? Look closer at the guy under the hoop. He resembles Leon Powe.

I say its old vid.

This.

That's clearly old footage, that's Leon under the hoop. I would say this is footage from a walk through practice sometime during the playoffs when it was known KG was practicing with the team in hopes he could go if they continued to advance.

I'll wait for footage from this years camp before i get all gloomy. It's a concern, but no more or less than any other player returning from knee surgery.

i'm not very concerned, but i am a little concerned. as fans, we deserve an accurate and official update on KG's health and status for the start of this season. is that too much to ask?

however, management doesn't feel the pressure to release this information, as they know that no matter what KG's health is, we will still pack out the garden every night...afterall, we are the best fans in the league.

How do you know that they are fully aware yet? They haven't seen him in anything but controlled practices yet either.

Yes he's moving well and says he's feeling great right now, but it's not like the C's staff can look at him and go "well, good to know, Kevin is 100% healthy/ his knee is shot. awesome/ugh. we better not tell the fans though, either way we love screwing with their heads"

I'm sure they will be keeping a close eye on him every minute of every practice. They are probably more concerned than we are.

Knee injury's are tricky, no matter how minor or serious, to immediately declare one way or another.

Look at the pats, they SAY tom's knee is fine, but until we get a few weeks of actual work out of him, we won't know. Everyone, including carlson, thought palmer's knee was fine a few years ago, and a few weeks in to the season he started to complain of fluid and "tightness"

Again, it's a concern, but I don't think there's some conspiracy afoot by the Celtics brass to deprive fans of some deep, dark secret regarding his knee one way or another that they are in on.

I'm sure they are having him eval'd regularly and hope he is back to 100%, as they and KG claim, but until we see a training camp and some games put some wear and tear on it, neither they nor us fans will know if that knee will hold up long term or not.

EDIT: also, as someone who had a major knee injury, let me tell you, when i was close to getting back to sports, i thought it felt great. everything was going well at practice, knee felt good. Then we played two games into the season ( I was a DE/OL in football) and my knee started to feel "loose" and i had to take it easy and build up my strength over the next few games. I ended up missing about two extra weeks while the trainers made sure it was as structurally sound as both they and I though it was initially.

The point is, NO ONE, least of all KG knows how that knee is going to hold up, but thats a concern off every knee operation at every level. He had a great surgeon, we will all watch, along with the celtics and his teammates, and hope that it holds up.

I'm concerned, but there is no point in driving yourself into a frenzy over it. We'll have to wait and see.

I guess we should be concerned, but it's not like there's a heck of a lot we can do about it.  Maybe say a little prayer for KG or something, but the situation will unfold the same way regardless of our anxiety level.

Thanks for the answers and the rationalization guys, I was so driven in my "KG's knee is bad!" theory that I didn't even notice that the footage of his practice was old... didn't see Powe in the footage, ugh...

Still, it would be good to have some "proof" that KG's knee is OK but I guess only the first game of the season will tell us about it.

good points crownsy, i have had an injury evolving around my ankle, so i can understand what you're saying. i broke the ankle and tore ligaments, ended up needing surgery back in may. well, a plate and 9 screws later, i'm feeling pretty good. so just the other day, i was jogging and doing some two hand touch football. felt really good, but the couple of days after that, it's been a little tender. i know that it just needs more of the combo of excercise and rest, but i'm still not 100%.

anyways, i say all that simply to say, i understand what you're saying. i just wish we could hear and see a little bit more of what "KG looking good" means from the guys up top in management. it'd be nice to see a good clip of him doing crazy summer workouts, sort of like we saw pierce do last year hauling tires behind him as he ran and stuff...

Old footage Powe is right there under the hoop! I hope he is alright but i think Sheed starting if say his injury was that bad wouldn't be bad at all!

This pure speculation but if the team had thought the injury was real bad wouldnt they have had surgery soon after it happened. I mean, I know it takes a little time wometimes to know for sure but surely the team doctors had a pretty good idea of the extent of the injury before the summer time and if they suspected it was real bad I think they would have scheduled surgery much sooner. If, instead, they thought it wasnt that bad and that he might even be back in the playoffs and be able to play on it then they would have postponed the surgery and that is what happened.

Of course we should be concerned until we see him looking similar to his old self.  However, I am optimistic now.  There is no way with all of this "getting in shape" that's going on that something negative wouldn't have leaked already if there was even anything at all to leak.

So I guess we just have bad doctors?

We'll know nothing until Training Camp starts and the first preseason game is played. The Celtics fans have been misinformed and that makes us all not trust most of the media reports. We will see soon

I think he will be fine. they can repair the knee pretty well these days.
I don't think they are telling us the entire story about his knee, but I don't blame them for wanting some privacy with this issue. From what I understand it wasen't all that serious.
We may not have more power forwards than last year but we have much higher quality bigs this year.
