...or a made up one? :

"More trades are expected.  Is anyone surprised?  If Milwaukee doesn't match the offer sheet the Wolves gave Ramon Sessions, the Timberwolves will have four PG's on the roster in No. 1 pick Jonny Flynn, Sessions, newly acquired Antonio Daniels, and Chucky Atkins.

A little bird says Atkins may be on his way to Boston in a multi-player trade involving Tony Allen, but don't say I said so.  Little birdies like to make things up."

Sounds good, but Allen for Atkins doesn't work salary wise, and I would hesitate to include Giddens or Walker in such a deal (unless Cs got back a draft pick).

Cs need a backup point guard, but Allen+Giddens/Walker for Atkins is too much, especially when it is likely Atkins or some other backup PG will be bought out before the start of the season.

I could go for Scal and Tony for Corey Brewer and Chucky Atkins. Chucky is old, can't shoot, is about done and I think has an non-guaranteed contract but if Brewer is healthy he could be something in the right system as a defensive minded true SF. I was always impressed with him at Florida. He's a smart basketball player and if reports are true and he has been working on his shot, could be something in the Ariza mold in a year or two.

They can't trade Chucky with another player until the end of the month, but if that's something both teams would wait for it's an interesting idea.

I don't really think Brewer is a good NBA player, though. So I wonder if they're at all interesting in trading Gomes (with Atkins) for Tony, Scal, Giddens? I'd even throw in a first to get that done.

I think that team thinks way to highly of Gomes to trade him when they have him wrapped up in a pretty fair contract for a while. My guess would be it would be brewer's contract they would want off the books.

And as much as Brewer hasn't been a very good pro yet, he is only 23 and has a championship pedigree and showed signs of coming alive last year before getting hurt. I could wait for October for that type of trade.

just figured out what the Sept. 27 date is all about

Atkins was traded recently and there's a restriction about him being involved in a multi-player deal for 2 months, which expires on Sept. 27

either this Hume guy is really good at making complex stuff up or he's got some kind of source

if we do trade for Atkins and Wilkins, that would take Tony, Scal, and probably Giddens to get done financially

not sure that's what I was hoping for with our expiring deals, but I guess it would even out the bench depth a bit

Wow, I just got very interested by the mention of Wilkens.
Atkins + Wilkens for Scal + TA + Giddens.  I'd do it.

More from the Wolves realgm board:

"From Rubechat:

Confused me a bit, but it sounds like we're trying to get J.R. Giddens, Tony Allen, Brian Scalabrine, or all 3 in some package with the C's and Rockets. He says Boston would keep Wilkins but buy out Atkins

I'm a Giddens fan so I hope they turn two bums into Giddens and see if he can turn into a decent bench player - maybe something more if he puts it all together. Who cares about the Atkins savings this year, take a chance on an athletic wing."

Intriguing...

Edited title of the thread since it seems the C's would cut Chucky if this finally happened... ::)

We would basically trade TA, Scal and Giddens for Wilkins and some money compensations from the salary of Chuck. In the process we would clear the logjam at the 2/3, get rid of TA and free another roster spot. I guess we would give a chance to Hudson then...and to another PG, or maybe to Bobby Swift? :P

Not sure why Minnesota would trade Atkins. His contract is only partially guaranteed; if they cut him, they trim some money off this season's payroll.

Second.  Even if we cut Atkins - though I hope if we cut Atkins we'd still go out and get another PG, because as much as Chucky's dropped off, he's still better than no one.  But Wilkins would be a quality addition to the bench, give us more matchup flexibility on the 2nd unit and free up Daniels to mostly play in the backcourt, helping our bench unit's size.

No reason to pick up Chucky - a decent offensive PG who plays zero defense and is simply incapable of playing defense --serves no purpose for the Celtics-  we are not that desperate!
