Under that scenario I think a 12-1 Texas has to get in somewhere

Remember this:

The Orange Bowl gets the ACC winner.
The Fiesta Bowl get the Big 12 winner.
The Rose Bowl gets the Pac 10 and Big 10 winners.
The Sugar bowl gets the SEC winner.
And all this is dependent upon those winners not going to the Championship Game because if they do then that bowl game is open to invite who they want.

So Nebraska winning over Texas forces Nebraska into the Fiesta and the Fiesta won't take Texas for a rematch. It also means that the only way Boise State and Cincy play is if a bowl has two slots open and in my scenario where texas is upset, the only place that occurs is in the Sugar Bowl who just loves having an SEC team play in it.

So if Florida wins against Bama, Bama is not considered the "SEC winner"? Sugar can invite whoever?  Same thing I guess with the big 12 and Fiesta?

Bowden retiring ... the end of an amazing era.  :'(  (And Charlie Weis gone ... not that it compares remotely - back to the Pats' defense, Chuck)

Yes, that is correct but, if there is a second team from those conferences, especially the Sugar Bowl which is much older than the Fiesta and has a much, much longer tradition of having an SEC team playing in it, they try to invite those teams. If Texas beats Nebraska they will go to the National Championship and leave the Fiesta with no Big 12 team since no other team will be invited by the BCS. But the SEC runner up is about guaranteed to get the Sugar Bowl bid so that bowl can keep continuity.

My guess is if Texas wins the Big 12 then Iowa gets in and goes to the Fiesta. My question is even if Texas loses to Nebraska, would Iowa, a team that travels excellently and brings the bucks to spend, get in instead of Boise State.

Picture seems to be getting a lot clearer.  Oklahoma State really shot themselves in the foot this past weekend.   Texas is definitely Boise State's best friend right now.  I think a Longhorn win gets the Broncos in the BCS bid.

If I had to guess things right now, he's what I think.

BCS National Championship Game:  Florida v. Texas
Sugar Bowl: Alabama v. Cincinnati
Fiesta Bowl: Iowa v. Boise State
Orange Bowl: Georgia Tech v. TCU
Rose Bowl:  Ohio State v. Oregon

Things definitely hinge on that Big XII title game.  A Texas loss will throw things in the loop.  In that scenario, I think you'll see Cincinnati or TCU in the title game.  I don't think they'll be an SEC title game rematch for the national title.  There was a very similar scenario a few years back with Ohio State and Michigan.  Florida ended up leapfrogging Michigan in the final BCS standings and I think the same thing would happen here with Cincy/TCU.

HUGE football game tonight:  Oregon State v. Oregon

The Civil War is a rivalry in itself but this year has an extra special meaning since the winner takes the PAC-10 and grabs a berth in the Rose Bowl.  Last year, all Oregon State had to do was win and they were in the Rose Bowl.  Instead, they got smoked at home by the Ducks.

I got a friend currently in Eugene getting his masters at Oregon so I guess I'll be pulling for Ducks but I really wouldn't have a problem seeing the Beavers get there, either.  They haven't been since 1964.

Conference Championship Saturday.  Some great games on the docket.  The four that pique my interest.

Florida v. Alabama- The matchup the nation has been anticipating since Sept.  Winner makes the National title game. I can't go against Tebow here.

Texas v. Nebraska- I know we have a bunch of Huskers fans here rooting for the upset. I'm pulling for the burnt orange. Been rooting for them since I was a kid and not changing my ways now. Despite a down year by the Big 12, I think Texas is a legit contender.  I do expect a pretty tight game, though.

Cincinnati v. Pitt- Winner grabs the BCS bid for the Big East.  Cincy's got the offense but the game is in Pitt.  I like Dion Lewis leading the way and Pitt taking it.

Georgia Tech v. Clemson- The ACC title game. Battle of two great running attacks.  In the end, I think the option is too much for the Tigers to handle and the Yellow Jackets get the BCS bid.

One of the subtly most important days in the history of college football happening today. Too many good teams playing for there not to be a single upset.

Things that could happen

Texas and Bama both lose theoretically making TCU #2. In that case the BCS would have some splainin to do in a historic sort of way. It would somewhat cement the BCS reputation as either corrupt or not so corrupt system that can work.

Cincy goes to a BCS bowl game

Nebraska finally makes it back to major status after about a decade away

Texas gets some revenge and gets themselves in the championship game or takes a big step down

Bama goes back to National Championship game

Florida goes back to National Championship game and makes it 3 of 4 years cementing itself as a dynasty

Houston wins CUSA throwing another small pebble at the BCS

East Carolina beats Houston giving the BCS one more bullet of ammo and credibility

Tebow wins himself another Heisman cementing himself as a top 10 college football player in history

Mark Ingram wins himself a Heisman becoming I believe the only Bama player ever with a Heisman (can you believe that?)

It started last night with Oregon breaking what seems like a decade long PAC TEN BCS/Rose Bowl monopoly by USC

Case Keenum has a hell of a day maaaayyyybbbeee getting himself a Heisman taking the trophy to a non-BCS school (and the 2nd for Houston I think.)

Who would have ever thought the three best football teams in Texas in order would be Texas, TCU, Houston (or by the end of the day TCU, Texas, Houston)?

I agree with you eja117.

I can't get over the fact that in the history of college football, a program the caliber of Alabama has never had a Heisman winner.  Shocking to me.

Apparently they had a shot at Bo Jackson but ticked him off when they said to him "If you go to Auburn you'll never beat Bama" and he said "Oh really?", went there, basically personally beat them, then won the Heisman over Iowa QB Chuck Long in one of the closest votes ever - LEGEND
