I don't see what the big deal is. Isn't Tila his girlfriend?

I would like to hear more details about the case...yeah, obviously he is a punk because of his past, but if he was just trying to keep her from leaving and he grabbed her (apparently around the neck), then I think that's different than like knocking her down, getting on top of her and literally choking her just for the hell of it...this type of stuff gets overblown a lot, especially with celebrities. I am not one who condones violence to women (who really would?) and if he really did go crazy on her, he deserves to get punished...but I am not ready to add this to the list of reasons why I don't like the guy...

Whats sad is, if he really is at fault the NFL won't really do anything, he probably won't even get a 1 game suspension.

Are you kidding me? Roger Goodell will definitely suspend him. He is a known disciplinarian and just bad publicity for the league usually warrants a suspension from him. Definitely a couple games if it is true.

That's not the point, he choked her.

I'm aware that he choked her. I just hope this is investigated further before everyone judges merriman. For instance, did he sneak attack her, or was she aware? Did she start it?

I think many/most men in todays society discipline their women, this is getting waaaay out of proportion because merriman's "celebrity."  Sucks to be him

That I agree with. Rihanna provoked Chris Brown big time, but everyone still makes Chris look like a monster.

thats exactly what I mean. Why is he the bad guy? She pushed him until he couldn't take it and then he acted to discipline her. Then she got a little banged up and everyone judges and rushes to ruin his image. If she acted like a lady she wouldn't get beat like a man. And thats why i think merriman is innocent. tp for you.

Sounds like Merriman was trying to prevent her from driving home drunk according to someone at the party and she went ballistic.

The following statement was received via e-mail late Sunday night:

"On September 6, 2009, the San Diego Sheriffs Department responded to a citizens complaint that was initiated by Tila Nguyen (aka Tila Tequila). I was taken into custody based upon that complaint. At the time, I was concerned about her welfare given the intoxicated state she appeared to be in and I encouraged her to stay until safe transportation could be provided. We would all do our best to help a friend if we considered their actions to be detrimental to their personal safety. I in no way caused any harm to Ms Nguyen, however, paramedics were called and she was examined but no injuries were reported. She was released and has since returned to Los Angeles, California. There have been no charges filed against me. I want to thank the San Diego Sheriffs Department for their professionalism. I will continue to cooperate fully with the Department and I look forward to clearing my name regarding these false allegations. I want to put this behind me so I can continue to focus on a successful season for the San Diego Chargers."

I don't know the full story about Chris Brown - Rihanna.  I also don't know the full story (none of us do at this point) about Merriman - Tila Tequila.

But that said, I disagree with you completely.  The only time that one person should use physical force with another person is in self defense.  The idea that a man should be able to "discipline" his woman is offensive.  She is not his property.

Back to Merriman -- there are many ways to stop Tila from driving.  Here's one: take the battery out of her car.  Here's another: hide her keys.  Here's a third: call a taxi....

To put this thread back on topic:

I agree that Goodell will probably suspend Merriman for at least a game.  The NFL wants to make sure it protects its image.  Goodell hasn't made a statement yet, but probably will soon (a "wait and see" or "let the legal side unfold" type of statement).

If it wasn't for the Seymour trade, this Merriman thing would be all over the football news.

I don't think he's innocent but I think it MAY or MAY NOT be over the top. But who knows, either way when a linebacker or an accountant or a burger flipper put his hands on a woman it's real bad 99% of the time.

I can't blame him. I imagine him trying to calmly stop her from driving drunk, her flipping out like an angry drunk (expletive), and him reacting instinctively to the situation and detaining her physically. Someone said that a man should only put there hands on another person in self defense....well, Merriman may very well have been defending himself. Just because she's smaller and a woman doesn't mean she can't inflict harm/pain. The notion itself that women are fragile beings incapable of taking care of themselves and in need of special social conduct codes and laws is sexism in itself.

Tila Tequila sucks.
