Trade Tony to Denver for a 2.5M portion of their Steven Hunter trade exception. Can we even get that much for TA?  ::)

Seriously, does anyone worry that Tony Allen is literally dangerous for the team? I don't mean on the court, but off it. We had to beef up security during the Chicago series and I just wouldn't want to see anyone caught in the crossfire of something TA started. Not that I'd want to see TA shot or mugged or anything like that, but especially not anyone else from the team..

This is actually a pretty good idea.

Denver is probably one of the few teams in the league that might be willing to take a risk on Tony Allen, and Tony Allen might be able to platoon with Affalo to fill Dahntay Jones' shoes.

The only problem I see with this trade is that trade exceptions cant be combined with any other player in a trade, meaning we cant combine it with Brian Scalabrine's contract which will end our dreams of getting someone like Nocioni in a trade. I have a feeling Management is not willing to trade for a big contract anyways, so this trade will allow Boston to save around 5 million dollars.

Even if Tony Allen is not traded spcifically to Denver, he will probably eventually be traded to some team under the cap for a trade exception anyways, its just a matter of finding a team willing to take him on. The ideal trade would be for a trade exception and maybe a second rounder.

If we can ANY plyer for TA we should. Denver do look like a team that lacks back court depth. Come to think of it - I would settle for some money and second rounders...

I don't think Denver would be willing to pay that much for Tony Allen. They've been very careful about their money this offseason.

Well if they wouldn't take TA for nothing on a one year rental, we honestly have no hope do we?

Pretty much.  TA hasn't proven he can be a rotation player on a good team.  If a Denver simply wanted a third string shooting guard, why not just sign some undrafted rookie to 1/4 of what TA makes?

TA only has value as an expiring contract ... in a trade where the other team reduces it's payroll long term.

In that scenario he has value. In others, he doesn't.

As I've said all summer, what I'd like to see Danny do is to sell Tony Allen to a team below the salary cap. Give them TA + $3 million just to get him off the C's payroll.

The other team likely waives TA and makes $500k for a day's paperwork, while Boston gets TA's contract off their luxury tax bill and saves about $2 million while opening up a roster spot for another player should they choose to sign another player.

The team makes 500k but loses the amount of salary cap space for Tony's deal, 2.5 million.

That space could be more valuable at the deadline to facilitate a deal, I don't think any of the teams currently below the cap would agree to such a deal for that reason.

I disagree -- Memphis, Sacramento and Oklahoma all have cap space and I think at least one of them would be interested in making that type of deal ... although, it will be harder now than it was two months ago.

* Memphis won't have cap space if they sign Iverson.

That would be a good trade for Denver

Tony would be an upgrade over Dahntay Jones.

He would do well in Denver.
