I think with Marquis on board and the roster at 14 official players, Walker and Giddens are sitting in suits this year again (well, maybe some time in D-League too).  If Hudson's signed, he's in clothes/D-league as well.

Does anyone see it differently?  I know many would prefer Walker or Giddens get the 12th spot with TA sitting but I don't see Doc making that roster move.

If Danny signs a vet PG instead of Hudson, any guesses as to who sits with Walker and Giddens?  I think that person will turn out to be Williams (no way Doc only keeps Marquis as his backup wing player).

Thoughts?

Obviously a lot will depend on injuries.
Assuming no injuries, and assuming Lester Hudson is signed, then these three will be in street clothes:
Hudson, Giddens, Williams.
Celtics fan for life.

Yep, I think having 6 of the 12 spots taken up by bigs is too much. Especially considering how talented the first four of them are. So, I think Williams and Scal will switch up depending on who the opposition is, with one on the bench in street clothes and one dressing for the game.

I think another wing player will make the bench. JR Giddens looks like the frontrunner for that honour ... although I did say the same last season!

I see your point but I don't consider Scal a big.  He's a slow 3/non-rebounding 4.  primarily a 3.  when considered a 3, I figured Doc would play him over Walker since he prefers vets to youth.  (yes, I'm a firm believer Doc prefers experience to youth unless forced into playing youth.  you don't need to agree, it's just part of my basis for thinking Walker and Giddens will both be sitting this year).

We know the Starters so here's everyone else.
-------
Rotation players
-------
6 Sheed - Primary backup big
7 Daniels - Primary backup wing
8 House - Backup point
9 Baby - 4th big
10 Allen - 4th wing (just because Doc believes in him)
-------
Backups for our primary backups if there's a blowout
-------
11 Walker - Daniel's sub (could take Tony's spot in rotation)
12 Scalabine - Sheed's Sub (could lose his spot to Williams)
-------
Guys who are off the active roster
-------
13 Williams - (His rebounding could get him Scal's active roster spot)
14 Giddens - Not moving up unless Tony has loses his place on active roster.
15 Hudson - Not getting out of this role unless theirs an injury.

I was thinking of starting exactly this topic, I guess it is easier to just reply.  I agree with what appears to be the trend that one of Walker-Giddens and one of Scal-Shel will have to sit along with Hudson if he gets signed for some insurance.  This whole 12 man roster thing is the reason I see no need to run out and sign another PG.  That would just be one more player on the payroll to sit in street cloths and watch the game.

I feel Tony Allen will play well enough to deserve his uniform (active roster) but if he wobbles, he may just get cut to make room.  Tony, Scal, Walker, and Giddens will probably continue to be trade bait but they are only going to attract a trade if they are playing so I suspect a rotation.  The starting 5 are not going to practice much so we do need some extra bodies just to be able to get a 5 on 5 practice.

Good point -- Scal being used as a three -- it could very well play out like that.

Walker, Giddens and Hudson will all be in the D-League getting playing time. Now that they don't have to go out to Utah, it will be a more palatable option for Danny to have them there rather than getting no run here.

Rondo/House
Allen/Daniels/Allen
Pierce/Scalabrine
Garnett/Davis/Williams
Perkins/Wallace

There's your 12 in their positions until trades change it all.

I really hate Scal as a 3. His biggest strength is playing a perimeter 4 role. He's quite bad as 3 at the moment.

But he will play there as he did the beginning of both the 07 and 08 season.

Don't worry Edgar. He will be playing alongside Daniels all the time and although he will be the listed PG, it will be Daniels and Pierce that will playing the point position.
