So Who Gets Cut?

The Patriots have to get down to 53 players by 4 pm on Saturday.  They currently have 72 on the roster. Who gets cut?

Frankly I'd give consideration to cutting both Galloway and Fred Taylor, both of whom have been completely unimpressive in the preseason. But that won't happen.

So here's my list:
Titus Adams, Wesley Britt, George Bussey, Vinny Ciurciu, Jake Ingram, Hernana-Daze Jones, Paris Lenon, Mark LeVoir, Jamar Love, Brandon McGowan, Tyrone McKenzie, Rob Ninkovitch, Terrence Nunn, Robert Ortiz, Roderick Rodgers, Alex Smith, Chris Taylor, Ryan Wendell and Steve Williams.

As mentioned, McKenzie is on the IR so he is safe.

And I would still be surprised if they got rid of Alex Smith (even though he has not done anything yet)

I heard on the radio there were only 4 guys that were on the field for every special teams and they were Chung, Alexander, M Slater, and one other guy I forget. Possibly Edleman or Pierre Woods or something and therefore those guys are deemed safe.  Come to think of it I think it was Sam Aiken

Well, if that's not the list, then who?  They are obviously not going to keep all those tight ends and running backs.

IMHO it would be a huge mistake to cut Edelman, Chung or Darius Butler.  Those guys are football players.

A lot of the reporters feel that Sammy Morris or Benjarvus Green Ellis are going to be cut. 

4 TE's doesnt seem crazy to me, because David Thomas can line up as the H back.  That being said, neither Watson or Alex Smith help on special teams, so i guess one could be gone.  I would think they would trade one of the two rather then cut one

Galloway and Tayler are mid to upper 30's they aren't going out and giving it in preseason. they'll be big pickups this season.

I keep hearing this, why exactly should Maroney be cut? Yeah he isnt a star but in his first two years when healthy he was really good for a split back, 745 yards then 835 yards. He had 4.3 yards per rush his rookie year then 4.5 his second year, he is also a good reciever out of the back field. He was hurt last year, it happens but there is no reason for him to get cut.

AND the fact that he does all of his moves in the backfield only to go nowhere, he's soft.

Sammy Morris and Fred Taylor are just as injury prone, Maroney flat out puts up good numbers when he is healthy. Id also be hesitant to call him soft, try being a RB with a shoulder that you can barely move, everytime you get hit or land you aggravate it even more. The never healthy thing is overstated anyways, he missed 5 games the first two years which isnt bad, then last year when he had a serious injury he was out most of the year.

No they aren't Fred Taylor and Sammy are in their thirties and have had long sucessful careers.

Taylor has played in 140 out of 176 games.

Morris has played in 113 our of 158 games.

The last time he was healthy he ran for 100+ in 4 of the last 6 years of the 18-1 year. In the playoffs thats year against the Jags and Chargers (both very good defenses), he ran for 122 yards in each of those games before being shut down in the SB. He has shown he can be very good in big games, and when healthy puts up numbers.

That paly your talking about when he went out of bounds, he shouldnt of even been playing last year period, but tried playing through the pain the first 3 games. Nobody but him or the team know what kind of pain he was trying to play with, so you cant call him soft if you have no idea what injury he had.

You want him cut because you dont like him or the way he runs, not because it would be best for the team. Im far from his biggest fan, but you are selling him short, he makes the team better when he is healthy.

Well, after tonight's game, it's clear that Green-Ellis and Aiken will make the team.  The 2nd string offensive and defensive linemen also played well, particularly in the second half.  Hoyer also showed me quite a bit.

The defensive secondary-- and Chung in particular-- were pretty bad.
