I would like to think that we get a significant contribution from one or even more bench players this season. The addition of Wallace and Daniels are much ballyhooed so far, but will they really be difference makers?

I mean this in terms of overall play, not necessarily just scoring or rebounding stats. James Posey for instance won just as many games with his defense as his scoring IMO.

Vote twice if you like more than one player. I am going out on a limb here and saying Bill Walker will make a splash this season. My second vote is for Big Baby Davis, I think he outplays Sheed down the stretch.

Statswise, I think it will be Daniels, but I think Wallace will have the biggest impact, because I think he will help to also transform the "finishing" lineup by adding another option who is strong on defense, but can also kill teams if they leave him open to double Pierce, Allen, Garnett, or Rondo.

I think the Celtics will have an 8 man rotation with three key bench players making very good contributions -- House, Daniels and Sheed.

Eddie House and Marquis Daniels are just so much better than the rest of the backup players on the perimeter that it's hard for me to leave one of those those two out in a discussion like this. Both of those guys will be making good contributions throughout the season, House arguably being the best bench player last year, and would sorely missed if lost to injury.

If I were to select one of those above the others ... then Sheed is the frontrunner until proven otherwise. He's clearly the most talented player.

We already know Sheed, Daniels, and House will be the top contributors. Sheed and Daniels might be favorites, but House is going to be getting quite a few more good looks after adding these guys. This is going to be the first year that we'll have guys capable of creating their own offense coming off the bench.

Also, Bill Walker can contribute IMO. If Doc decides to play Daniels and House together in the backcourt then i see no reason why Walker can't get minutes at the 3 spot. From what i've read, he's really made some strides in his game this offseason.

In addition to that, he is aggressive defensively, an athletic freak, and is farmiliar with the system.

I chose Sheed and House.  I think House is consistently underrated in what he brings to the game in terms of momentum changing.

Sheed is obviously a talented player and I think a good fit for us.  I think he'll bring some levity to the locker room and will match the intensity already on the court.

I think Scalabrine and Walker will have more PT this year than Williams does.  Scalabrine will provide depth at both SF and PF, and will likely fill in a good amount if there are injuries.  And I expect Walker to be given every chance to play backup SF at the beginning of the season.

8-Man rotation? I don't see it. You're leaving out Glen Davis who undoubtedly will play significant minutes and make it at least a 9-man rotation. Then there's Scal who you'd have to  think will give them at least spot minutes after playing so well last year. I predict that Doc will use 10-11 guys in a normal game, as limiting the aging/injury-prone Big Three's minutes will be vital. If Daniels ends up playing a lot of PG minutes that could open up the door for a few minutes from Bill Walker if he continues to develop, and with our aggressive front court there's always the potential for foul trouble, in which case Sheldon could be called upon.

An 8-man rotation is something a college basketball team with little depth (and a much shorter season) can do, but the Celtics are an aging NBA team that has depth and plays 82 games plus the playoffs. To me employing a large rotation is a no-brainer.

What I failed to say was ... those three guys will provide the core of the bench. The main big off the bench, the main wing, and the main guard. The rest of the bench guys will be playing off of them. Those three players being the keys to the bench ... and that BBD isn't one of those players.

I think that's pretty much exactly it.  While others may play during the regular season, there really aren't going to be minutes for anyone else come playoff time (sorry Big Baby).  Unlike other teams who have a couple superstars and a bunch of role players, the C's legitimately have 5 very, very good starters who are all going to play well over 30 mpg come playoff time.

if I'm Baby, I'm P.O.ed and ready to go hard at KG and Rasheed and the Zombie and Perk every day in practice and I'm making it impossible for Doc to not play me

But I voted Rasheed and Marquis - I see Marquis as this year's James Posey and Rasheed as this year's Rasheed.  We have one of the best 9 man rotations I've seen in a long long time - think about this:

Our main 4 off the bench is better than what we had in 2008, in my opinion when the significant contributors were House and Posey. We still have Eddie, but added Sheed and Daniels with a more experienced Big Baby.

I expect all four of those guys to contribute a lot to the team, but if I had to pick the two most significant it'd be Daniels and Rasheed. Quis is going to get a lot of time out there playing three positions and will probably score in double digits off the bench, which we didn't have last year.

Rasheed gives us a big body that can spread the floor and rebound, if we had him last year we would have at least gotten past Orlando.
