Maybe Iverson will end up in green ::)

And this would be good why?

I seriously hope that was sarcasm on your part.

um, that's why he has the smiley rolling it's eyes lol.

can someone enlighten me as to how the heck Chris Wallace still has a job? Yeah, i didn't think so . . .

Gotcha, didn't realize the eyes were rolling.  I knew you were smarter than that!  Guess I need to freshen up on my emoticons.

Well like others have said, he's good at keeping payroll down and taking the bad publicity hits for the organiztion.  Other than that, I have asked this question since 1997.

Chris Wallace is the best spin doctor in the league.  I mean, he's taken the heat on behalf of ownership for how many bad trades?  Remember him trying to convince us all that Vin Baker just needed to come back home and he'd be a great center for us?  How it was like getting the equivalent of four first-round draft picks for Pau Gasol (Javaris Crittendon, Marc Gasol, and two high-20s picks from LA)?  He keeps spinning and spinning and spinning; recall that BS from a few weeks ago about how the fact the Grizzlies will have NO FREAKING SCOUTS is all fine and dandy, won't hurt things in the least?

I mean, has it ever been more transparent that ownership is trying desperately to sell and doesn't give a rats' ass about bringing in talent?  And Chris Wallace is the best GM in the world at SELLING THAT!

When your team hires Chris Wallace, you know that ownership is incredibly cheap, doesn't care much about the basketball product, and is looking to sell out ASAP.

It's weird, Wallace also somehow seems to have no ego.  Not only has he always been willing to take the heat (and be the punchline of eight million Bill Simmons jokes) about all these horrible trades, this was also a guy who seemed to have no problem getting demoted here when Danny Ainge came aboard.  I would wager that there is not a single other GM in the league who would stay aboard - with a lesser role, even if he nominally kept the "GM" title - when a new person was hired to take his job.  Not necessarily a bad thing, but that's a guy who doesn't seem to have a huge ego.

I haven't seen this mentioned yet, but didn't Iverson already sign with Charlotte?  I was under the impression Wallace was just saying that he had made an offer, not that Iverson was actually coming to Memphis?

The last that I had seen from a few days ago was that they were still working on it, people expected it to happen but I haven't seen anything official announced.

Haha, unfortunately, that is against the rules...well, unless we want to wait until December 15th (I believe) to make the deal.

Yeah, I just found the article.  I hadn't realized it wasn't a done deal.  Interesting.

I was confused on the Bobcats stand on AI thing too Chris, I guess sources always try to jump the gun by saying "AI to Bobcats, done deal", when in fact it isn't.

I think people assumed it was done because nobody else seemed to want to sign him.  It looked like his options were Charlotte, Europe, or retirement.

Was it written anywhere what Memphis' offer was?  Something tells me that it wasn't a full-MLE offer; it'll be a Rodney Rodger-type offer, one year at the vet min with a "wink-wink/nudge-nudge, we'll have new ownership in a year and THEN we're make sure you get paid!" offer.

I don't understand why this benefits Memphis, why would they want AI. Maybe it gives them more media attention which is good for a small market city.  But on the court it doesn't seem to benefit their basketball team.

Yeah, its purely about selling tickets.

Although I am a little bit intrigued by a backcourt of Mayo and AI.  I think Mayo could be a hell of a complimentary guy, and it may actually benefit him in the longrun to play with someone who he needs to defer to a bit.  It would help him learn to be a more efficient player, and to focus on building up some of his skills other than scoring.  I think his perfect role in the league is as someone's Scotty Pippen, where he handles the ball, passes it, plays great defense, and then scores only when needed.  This could put him on track for that.

After Chris Wallace gave Pau Gasol to LA for almost nothing,
am I the only one concerned that he will give Iverson to LA.

I know Iverson is getting old but he is still better than Derick Fisher.
oh heck bring it on.

Poor Rudy Gay will never touch the ball if their backcourt is Mayo/Iverson.

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that quote.

So does this mean Wallace is back from vacation?
