espn is reporting that wallace confirms making an offer to iverson. yeah, AI and Zach randolph together ought to be good veteran leadership for their young players. ::)
why does chris wallace have a job running an nba team? I don't remember any good moves he made while he was here. i remember vin baker. i remember kedruck brown and trading joe jphnson away. i was shocked when the grizzlies hired him. he gave away pau gasol. what is the deal with this guy??

He has a job running NBA teams because he is incredibly talented at saving his owners a ton of cash, and taking the heat for it.  You can say what you want about him, but he is [dang] good at what he does, and will continue to have jobs in the NBA because of it.

i guess if that's his thing, more power to him, but it seems like he'd get sick of just trying to save money after several years and actually want to win.
in the meantime, there are problems with just trying to save money - popovitch was pretty p---ed off after that gasol trade, suggesting there be a way to override moves like that. maybe he was right.
then again, it all comes down to money, all the contending teams are over the cap, including the spurs.

I guess (although the Gin Baker deal wasn't exactly one that saved us money), but what has he really ever done that was totally postive? I mean, the Gasol deal is well documented here as one of the worst trades ever, but what does he do that some other really good talent evaluator can't? He is the Matt Millen of the NBA and his career will one day be over forever.

Truth, he gets put in a thankless position a lot. He was a pretty good scout.

I blame the Vin Baker situation on Paul Gaston. His penny pinching prevented the C's from keeping Rodney Rogers. The C's, with a hard Gaston cap, were left scrambling for a big band aid to try to keep them in the playoff hunt.

Ainge and Wyc's more calm approach is such a breath of fresh air.

I believe the Baker trade did in fact save Gaston a decent amount of cash, and only cost the new owners money, since he knew he was going to be selling.  It was some of Wallace's finest work.

The Celtics acquired a steep contract in Baker in terms of length but saved that particular year when Gaston was looking to sell team. Thank god he succeeded.

This might stunt the growth of Mayo or Conley.

hat tip to Chris - i don't think I've ever seen anyone ever connect "Baker trade" and "finest work" before!
But yeah, if it helped gaston sell the team, in retrospect it was worth it.

I think this is a great move for the Grizzlies.

The Grizz aren't going to make a playoff run anytime soon, so why not get one of the games stars (even in his twilight years) on the cheap?  AI will help drive ticket sales (and jersey sales).  Plus, at best, AI redeems himself from last year with Detroit and becomes trade fodder.  At worst, AI can be cut.
Celtics fan for life.

And this would be good why?

I seriously hope that was sarcasm on your part.

This might stunt the growth of Mayo or Conley.

Ya think?  He only commands 40+ mpg and 25-30 shots per game to stay somewhat happy.  When you already have Zach Randolph there this would be crushing to the development of these young players.  The Grizzlies may actually be a slightly better team because of the overall talent, but in the long run it certainly doesn't help the likes of Mayo, Conley and Gay.  Horrible move, but then again, it's Chris Wallace so I'm hardly shocked.
