I can't believe those in their 40's in Boston haven't mentioned probably the most played with stuff during their youth. Hockey gloves, a street hockey ball and a hockey stick. If you weren't playing street hockey during the time of the Big Bad bruins, Orr, Espo, Cheevers, Bucyk, and the like, your were just not cool.

Played in the driveway with my brother every night. Then watch the Bruins on UHF channel 38.
And the tabletop game for hours

Yeah, I had the Bobby Orr version with the puck that dropped through the scoreboard. Loved that thing. It was always Habs-B's and always fun.

M.A.S.K. toys.

GIJoe of course, Turtles, lots and lots of Lego, and computer games (Nes, Snes, Gameboy, etc.)

Had some Micro Machines too.

Best thing about toys back then, is that they were remarkably durable. We made parachutes out of garbage bags and with some string hooked GIJoes to them. I can't recount the number of times they let loose while being throw up.

Later on, we made ourselves a crossbow that fired dart arrows. Really easy to make, you just need some wood, some nails, a rubber band and a hammer to make one. We positioned the GIJoes some meters away and shot darts at them with that crossbow. Was absolutely brilliant.

We also used to shoot paper-made "darts" from plastic blow-pipes at just about anything. From people to open windows.

These toys helped create my lifelong distaste for engineering.

Being an engineer...working for a toy company, I am highly offended sir!

I don't ever remember playing with toys...I was always bored with them after ten minutes.  About the closest thing to toys were my bike, my skates, my dog, any horse that happened to be available to ride, sports equipment(I was the girl who was always called when there weren't enough boys to fill two teams  ;D , games (Monoply, cards, when younger...pick up sticks and jacks.  Mostly my nose was always in a book...books were my best friends.  Always lived near the beach, so swimming was common, too.
Yesterday is history.
Tomorrow is a mystery.
Today is a gift...
That is why it is called the present.
