How about letting Larry Bird walk away from the franchise he defined for a generation or more?

If I remember right, this had to do with Gaston who ignored Larry's advice and hired Pitino over Larry Brown as coach in whatever year that was....Larry didn't really want to leave - he was working for the Celtics. But regardless, someone should've stepped in and kept Bird around. There's just no excuse. Sure, it's nice that Danny has been better than probably anyone expected, and yes he's an old celtic. But he's not The iconic old Celtic. I think it's sad that Larry wasn't there to celebrate the 2008 championship. He was the only thing missing (excpet Red). Russell was there, Havilchek presented the ECF trophy. Where was Larry? In Indiana. It's ridiculous. I know that's where he was raised, but he's a Boston Celtic forever and ever. Magic is a Laker (still, good for him.) Jordan should be with the Bulls. It's crazy. I remember years after his retirement people still chanting "Larry - Larry" when he came to a game. He stopped coming I think to stop embarassing the current players. He defined the team the way very few athletes ever do, and to me this will never change regardless of where he is now.

Maybe I'm just whiney and old, but I still wish Larry never left.

heres a good one.. bringing chris andersen and patrick obryant in for workouts... only inviting pob back for a 2nd... and then signing him to a 1 year deal after two bad workouts.

Lucky wasn't fired.  Lucky just doesn't work the games any more.  You can take the job away from Lucky, but he'll still be Lucky. (at least that's what he thought)
Yup

ummm,,,i like both delonte and gomes,,,but that got us allen and kg...are you serious?

if keeping a decent tweener pg/sg that can shoot and a 7th/8th man is your least favorite move that results in 2 hof's that deliver a ring, thats crazy

for me, its easily trading chauncy for k anderson

and trading j johnson for rodgers and delk

actually,,,,the worst part was prob exercising the denver pick in 01,,,wait 2 years and its melo
Looking for a Sig designer....obviously i will be greatful with tps.

Looking for a Wire - Rondo theme....PM with ideas and I'll tp

I've usually been able to put look on the bright side of any move we do, but here are a few that I disliked from the get go.

-resigning Blount.  If there was ever a textbook case of playing for a contract, that was it.  Awful move.

-Using Denver's pick in the 2001 draft.  If we would've had patience, we could've ended up with Denver's #3 pick in the 03 draft and had our choice of Melo, Wade or Bosh.  I remember getting lambasted for this idea back in the day on the ESPN Celtics message board.  Man, that 01 draft was an exciting time to be a C's fan.  I was hoping we'd end up with Diop and Troy Murphy with the lotto picks, and then nab Jamaal Tinsley with the last pick.  Those were the days.

-Vin Baker.  Awful.  Just awful.  This trade basically told the fans that it was all about the bottom line for Gaston.

Have I mentioned how much I like the new owners?

Actually, it is pretty neat to follow the strings of mistakes and successes and see how it contributed to the current team.

So a bad signing on the surface, like Wally, can end up being a good thing if it turns into a championship.

Or a mistake like letting Delonte or Ryan Gomes go is justified if the end result is better.

The ability to bad decisions into good players and turning good players into better players is what separates good GMs from bad ones, as we can see from the past 15 years.  I don't envy their job. (Although it would be nice)

That was probably the worst. There was no reason to take away Red's title. Just a sign of things to come with Pitino's ego!

Disagree.

True, we basically had a choice to give up gomes or rondo... what do you think?
