A little surprised by all the Favre hate. Sure his endless comebacks are annoying, but they are not a "disgrace to the game". Donte Stallworth is a disgrace to the game, Brett Favre is just a guy holding onto glory until the last possible drop.

Favre isn't the first athlete to comeback a few times, and he won't be the last. And why not? He showed last year he can play still play some and he's going to get a rather large check. The Packers decided to move on, why can't Favre decide where he wants to play?

He is a disgrace to the game in that he turns everywhere he goes into a publicity circus.  Makes a mockery of the contract system with his retirements just to go an sign a new contract with another team.  And is the most overrated QB in this past decade.

I for one think that this game would be better off without a me first numbers guy like Brett Favre.  I mean we get it Brett, you wanna protect that INT record, but that doesnt mean you have to throw multiple every game!

But seriously.  This game will be better off without him.

I hope everybody is ready for "Brett Favre just made a bowel movement" on the Bottom line on ESPN.

That actually would be an improvement over much of what's been reported about Favre on ESPN.

Does ESPN realize how bad they've become?
Yup

Well I've always appreciated what Favre has brought to the game. As I said, his comebacks are annoying, but he makes the league more interesting. At least he doesn't just flat out quit like a Barry Sanders or something. I think he should be able to play as long as he can. And if the league has a problem with all the unretirements, they they can make a new "Brett Favre" rule..

I don't care how long he plays. I hate the drama queen act.

Favre is the second best QB in Packers history, he doesn't even crack the top ten all time QBs. Too many picks. He's not very good anymore, the hype just gets overwhelming from ESPN...

See, I admire the Sanders and Koufax's of the sports world.  Retired at the top of their games before they deteriorated, and stuck to their games despite what must have been unbelievably tempting to come back to.
Yup

Fair enough. I guess I just don't think it's that big of a deal in the grand scheme of the NFL. I mean Michael Vick is going to be playing in the NFL this year. The man murdered dogs. Donte Stallworth ran over an innocent bystander driving bombed. I could care less about a little Favre theatrics. T-A-M-E..

Everything about the NFL is a publicity circus.  The Superbowl is the biggest annual publicity circus in sports (World Cup and Olympics are the only bigger ones), and it rarely has anything to do with the caliber of the matchup.  It's my least favorite thing about the league.

This is only possible because there are so many terrible QBs in the league.
I don't think this could happen in the other sports in the same way.

The man is some sort of an attention junkie.

I have no problem with him trying to play as long as he can. I'm not so annoyed with Farve as with ESPN.

It just seems like Farve is one of those situations where ESPN is trying to fool all the people, AGAIN, and it isn't going to work. I can't think of another situation like it

Agreed. The NFL is one big hype machine. I don't hold it against it, but the Favre situation is just another, maybe unintended, part of the territory..

I dont understand the hate. If a team wants him and he wants to play he can play. It's ultimately his decision and he should be allowed to play as long as he wants. Is the way he goes about it annoying? Yes. Is it his fault the media covers everything and stakes out his house, workouts etc? Not entirely. He is a nice guy and really enjoys the game. I think we will all struggle with our career mortality at some point in life. Maybe we will not handle it perfectly either.

You see indecision, I see deliberate manipulation to stay in the spotlight and avoid training camp.

Yup - it's a combination of being the most popular sport with the least amount of content (games).  Hype fills in the huge blank spaces between actual competitions.   Annoying or not, the annual Favrefest is a byproduct of this.
