Bowen not interested in the Celtics?

My guess: He's not interested in committing to a team because (as mentioned above) he'll be PJing later in the year. It's not that he doesn't want to come here.

Come on guys. Coach Pop of the Spurs is in no way entertaining any thoughts of rehiring his services. According to him, their organization have other plans and Bowen is not taking part of those plans.

Fact of the matter is Bowen can't anymore play a decent defense and catch up against younger and more athletic scorers like Kobe, Melo and Lebron.

blessing in disguise...the only problem i have with the roster is that tony allen is still on it...it looks like we will have to keep him at least until the trade deadline  ..i just hope doc really doesn't use him...rather see giddens and walker get a chance..altough giddens might not be much better than tony either

I think this makes a lot of sense for Bowen to wait until February to catch on with a team.  It allows him to rest his old legs, and really make an informed decision when deciding which team to go to.

I also like this for the C's.  It adds a nice option to go after midseason, after they give Walker and/or Giddens a chance to earn some minutes early on, and eat up some time with their young legs. 

With the bench the C's have, it will be much easier for them to throw someone like Walker out there, since he will have much better talent around him than he did last year, which will help to hide his weaknesses much better.  Then in February, if he hasn't stepped up, they can go after Bowen, or another buyout guy (maybe Pavlovic), or make a trade using their expiring contracts.

Agreed, I would like to see them specifically develop Walker.  If I had my preference I would still like a vet small forward more than anything, but that seems less and less likely as time goes on.  So if Danny IS gonna go with the young guys, Walker is the one I'd like to see them focus on, and make sure Tony stocks his dresser with nice suits to wear at the end of the bench.

As for Bowen, I think he could be a big asset, but he's also a risk.  I understand there was a very sour falling out in San Antonio between him and Pop.  That may have been a matter of the amount of time he was there, and his slowly diminished role, perhaps conflict was inevitable.  None the less, if he couldn't get along with one of the most likable coaches in the league (Pop,) and his skills are diminished enough where he couldn't crack a championship contending team's rotation, I don't know that he's the best choice for this team. 

At the vet min, I guess he's still worth the risk though.  Doesn't look like that is gonna happen either way.

Bowen would be an OK fit late during the season but I think it's finally a blessing in disguise that he doesn't sign with us now because he seems really too washed up to be really effective. The fact that the Spurs didn't re-sign Bowen and Popovich's quotes about him make me think that he isn't worth a roster spot. Sure, he could help in the playoffs and still be a good defender but it's a gamble and with the few spots we have left I think it would be wise to use it on another wing backup, younger and more effective, or a backup PG.

Reminds me of the whole Reggie Miller pursuit before the 2007-08 championship year.  Sometimes, the best acquisitions are the ones not made.  However, as pointed out in previous posts, he may end up playing more the roll of PJ than Reggie Miller if he really is eyeing a mid-season signing.

Firstly, Hoopsworld is far from reliable...They offered me a job...

and secondly, this is the latest thing out, the craze...work out casually and see who is really making a run and then go to work in February when all the fun begins...I mean, why not?...You've made millions; take some time to spend a little, relax, and just show up for the sweetmeats saving your body big time...sounds solid to me for a 38 year old whose suffered the slings and arrows for many a year...
I doubt Bowen not coming to Boston has anything to do with the Boston Celtics; he certainly isn't quoted as saying that...It has to do with wear and tear.  If needed, I'd bet he'd be available to all come Valentine's Day...Of course, it's only hearsay that we wanted him in the first place...Perhaps this whole thing is just the Deli guy strikes again...

I've convinced myself that Danny's intentionally going to leave that last roster spot open until we see who else might get unexpectedly cut or bought out when camps open.  He'll give Hudson a crack at earning a spot, he'll invite one or two other guys to compete (giving us all something to write twenty pages of posts about), but he's not giving out a 15th guaranteed contract until he knows who else might shake loose.  No idea who that could be, but seems like there's often a few decent players who find themselves in free agency again during camp.

Bowen would be an improvement today over Walker/Giddens, but even so they need to have somewhat of an opportunity to earn minutes now if they're ever going to be more than trade fodder.

Danny's just going to sit back and wait (incidentally, I think this is also why I think he's trying desperately to be able to keep the LLE at his disposal).
