I just don't get the "I could be great, but my coach held me back" mentality. If you were as great as you think you were, either 1) the coach wouldn't have cut you, or 2) you would have found another way to allow your talent to shine through.
Anyway, it's a silly debate. I will say, though, that I don't buy for a second the "I'm good enough to make the pros, but that's not really my interest" argument. Unless you're making millions of dollars or saving lives, I can't think of too many more careers that provide more opportunities -- both in terms of finances and connections -- than pro athletics.
