From a thread a few days back, I know there are quite a few ruggers on the board, so I thought this might be of interest:

Rugby 7s may be added to the roster of Olympic sports in 2016, pending approval of the full IOC board.  Golf is also on the table.  Baseball and softball have been rejected for re-inclusion.

I'd love to see an Olympic 7s tournament and think it'd be great for the sport - too bad we'll have to wait 7 more years to see it.

I'd like to see both in the Olympics.

I'd also like to see baseball and softball added back in, though, too.

It seems silly to me that sports that are four categories for cycling (BMX, road, track, and mountain bike), but sports like baseball, rugby, karate, softball, and golf aren't.

7's tournaments are becoming bigger and bigger in the US. Its a much faster game and more entertaining to the common fan

I played in one 7s tournament several years back, and let me tell you, there's "match fit" and then there's "7s match fit".  I had no trouble being regular match fit but I thought I was gonna pass out at some point in every 7s game.  7s promotes a lot more general fitness and athleticism than standard rugby, and that's probably a good thing as a spectator sport.  Really hope it gets through the board and is included.

Olympic golf will never be as big as the majors but it's still good for the game overall that it has this chance to be involved.  Gold medals will never be green jackets but it'll still be great for those guys to be able to say that they're Olympic athletes.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

But it will be big in ratings.
