  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
A couple interesting things picked up from the various articles about BBD signing:

First, he's working on his three-point range:

Quote
Davis, who averaged 15.8 points last postseason, has been doing endurance and strength training in Houston, and working on improving his shooting range.

“It’s spreading the floor and giving my teammates more options,’’ Davis said. “Instead of 15-16 feet, 3-point range gives them another option out there. You’ve got to work on it. I’m going a little further, spreading it out. I’ve got stuff in my game people haven’t really seen yet.’’

Link.

While I think adding range will help BBD, I worry that he's fulfilling his destiny to be a poor man's Antoine.  He's got size and decent rebounding ability; I wish he'd spend more of his time under the basket.  Still, the fact that he's improving his game in any aspect is a good thing.

Second, RealGM is reporting that BBD's contract has incentives based upon his weight:

Quote
RealGM Note: Per a report from Yahoo!, Davis' contract includes 'weight-related bonuses totaling $500K each season.'

Link.

I think this is probably good news, as it should keep BBD motivated.  However, I haven't seen the original Yahoo report, so I don't know if there's any truth to it.

I've always though baby was a good rebounder, at least on the offensive end. He always seemed to come up with the ball in the paint, and did this a few times in clutch situations. It would be nice to see him show that kind of hustle on the defensive end but it's probably not an urgent matter since we have a sheed, kg or perk down low now to pair with BBD.

Isn't this the same thing they did with Gomes?  Except Gomes was a little faster and could be a larger SF.

Roy, the ESPN.com story is reporting the same $500K weight incentives built into both years.

Quote
Davis will receive $5 million in base salary and can earn an additional 500,000 per season for meeting certain weight clauses, a source told ESPN.com's Chad Ford.

I love it when Big Baby gets determined.  He brings a great mind set to the team on the floor.  I think he's going to be super confident after the playoff run he had, and be an excellent piece of the bench.  Hopefully he can help keep KG's minutes around (or under 30 minutes).

As for the 3's, that would be one weird looking three the way he shoots it.  I wonder if his release will change much on the 3's?
Yup

Glen strikes me as guy that needs to be pushed to reach his potential. KG is the perfect guy to help glen reach the next level. With his talent & determination, and a little help from KG & company Glen's future is very bright.

Uh this is an internet message board on a website devoted to the C's.

And know you're asking us not to obsess about our players and what they should do differently?  :o

He really is a poor mans Antoine, and through all of last year i stated the similarities. That means he should work on his 3's, maybe not shoot many but if your good at three's you should be nasty at midrange jumpers (esspecially off of pick&pop plays)

And next year, the ability to play limited minutes at the 3 may actually help him get minutes with a crowded 4/5.

I do wish he would stay in the paint more but whats not helping is KG who is big who play mostly away from the paint and now Sheed who plays away from the paint all the time.. So hopefully they will let him know he can be a beast in the paint and be able to step out and hit the shot without a 2nd thought. We shall see whatever helps us win i am all for!

You're right.  But the brute reality about BBD is that due to his size and weight, he is not a good finisher around the basket.  From what I can see, he can barely dunk the ball and only does so when no one is around.

Fortunately for the C's, they can get away with bigs on the perimeter as Pierce and Rondo, and to an extent Ray, are good penetrators.

BBD already has 100x the shot selection that Antoine did.  He used to hoist up stuff that would make me cringe...even if it went in.

True, but without getting into a full out Antoine debate, you have to wonder what BBD might do if he wasn't playing with so many good players.  How many bad shots would he put up if it was only him and Pierce out there?

Roy, with BBD's contract extension what kind of options will the celtics have once he's up? In other words, will he have bird rights?
