I expect him to come at almost full strength and better in time, as he hopefully adjusts along with all our new additions. Although he was out for quite a while and is 1 year older.

  • The good ole days.
I would expect some overhyped jitters in game 1, might break a back board if he tries a bank shot, but very little rust.

That said, it will be his 15th season and I'd still only expect another 16-8-3 type year in only 30-32 mpg.

it was pretty obvious he was NOT healthy---from the start of last season(bone spurs were already bothering him)---He had to sit and watch,as lesser teams (Chicago/Orlando) pushed us around---He's gonna be out for revenge...and I hope all the other Celtics remember this as well-!!

Agree. While I think he'll be healthy and efficient, I don't think we'll take any chances - especially not now that we have extremely strong frontcourt depth. His minutes will be watched closely.
Go Celtics.

He's completely bricked both his first shots of a season with the Celtics off the backboard.

On topic, I expect him to come in with the passion that he had in year 1 but the comfort level he had in year 2.  I would not be surprised if he is an MVP candidate this year, which if he is fully healthy I think he might be.  If his health is not right, though, I expect we'll know that soon enough as well and then his role will be subsumed even further into the team.

I quoted this post, though, because I think that even those of us that are huge fans of his tend to underrestimate him.  "Only another 16-8-3", to me, completely misses the point.  KG could average 16-8-3 for this team and be one of the top-5 players in the NBA.  If he's healthy, I think he will be.  I can't think of any other player in the league right now for whom the traditional box score stats are a less indicative measure of their production than KG.

Right, I agree the "only" part can seem a little misleading. The fact is, 16-8-3 in 30-32 minutes on a well balanced team is an outstanding stat line (something like 21-10.5-4 per 40). He'll be sharing points with other elite scorers and rebounds with very good positional rebounders like Perk, Rondo and Pierce so getting those numbers will be a great accomplishment that only the best of players could put up. I completely agree he could have his best season in green, but still think those are what the actual numbers will be in the end.

I think he'll be up there again for DPOY, and First-Team All NBA and All Defense. I think his MVP candidacy days will be over, though, because guys like Lebron and Wade and even Paul and Kobe are gonna keep throwing out huge stat lines on solid teams so that KG, even though his per minute stats will be very good and he'll make immense non-statistical contributions, will be an afterthought. Only way he competes for MVP is a 70-win season in which Garnett plays at least 75 games.
Go Celtics.

well, lets see.  I've really got a good closeup of KG just these last 2 years.  I am as absolutely sure as an outsider CAN be, but to me KG is the 1 thing we can count on.  He's money.

First shot will be a brick, he's going to break the backboard with his shot. After that, he'll travel in one of his dream shakes. Then he'll settle down after screaming at Baby for sitting in his chair.

Rust is always apparent in any layoff; however, I think KG will shake it off pretty quickly. There is no doubting that he is always mentally ready to go. With that said, he will do whatever it takes to be as physically ready as possible (the man will do whatever it takes to win). Besides, Sheed could always fill in for KG and shoulder the load in the post until he is back at full speed and in rhythm with his game.
