I care. I don't want people carrying cannons around their waists illegally with the safety off just looking for a reason to blow someone's face off.

Look, I'm sure you think your NFL role models are so "hard" because they're strapped but I can do without the whole "DEATH AT NIGHTCLUB" headline.

Before I end this essay, I’d like to leave you with a quote from Leonardo Da Vinci, who was perhaps the smartest and most diverse man who ever lived. Da Vinci once said, “The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.”

DA Vinci was a vegan can you understand why he may have said that?

Do you eat meat?

No.

Thanks for making my point.

As of 2006, approximately 1.4% of the US population is vegan

You are in the vast minority. I can respect that its your opinion but wholly disagree.

What does my decision to not eat meat have to do with a man torturing animals for recreation?

Your decision has no direct impact on the events that took place.

BUT. I guarantee that your DECISION to not eat meat stemmed directly from your views on the treatment of animals, which in turn becomes a strong belief in your morale code.

Being a vegetarian/vegan is a lifestyle choice not just a decision you make overnight so understandably you would commit considerable energy defending what you believe.

No wonder you take stories like this so personally and develop a hated for those involved.

I don't understand what you're saying. Are you in favor of torturing animals?

No. Definitely not.

But I don't consider the torture/death of an animal a more serious offense than that which threatens the life of a human.

From earlier in this thread:
I would ask you if you would give your own life for a random squirrel in your backyard. How about for a panda bear? What about a whale? Your own dog? How about a fish in your expensive fishtank?

He was carrying it illegally.  He didn't have it properly secured.  And the bullet that passed through his leg almost hit a security guard.

And would anyone have cared about Vick if no one knew about it?

But the point is Plaxico Accidentally discharged the weapon.  He didnt go in with the intention of shooting himself either.  If it could accidentally fire and hit him, he could have just as easily injured another which is what the law is there for, for protection of others.

And im sorry but Vick wasnt the only one there, Vick didnt kill 100's of dogs.  They killed eachother and dogfighting is part of the culture.  This stuff happens alot more than is known in the south, but Vick is the scapegoat for the entire dog fighting culture because he is famous.

The man did his time, paid his dues.  All this for a house that he was almost never at.  He was put in jail because it was his house however there was a great deal of evidence that he wasn't present as most of the dogfights were going on.

I think its time that people build a bridge and get over it on this Michael Vick thing.  Lets say he wasnt famous, lets say he was your neighbor and he worked as an IT guy at the office park down the road, would any of you go and protest him working there?  This is a big deal because of who he is not what he did, its as simple as that.

My personal beliefs are that he should be allowed to play.  But I think there is a flaw in this last argument of yours.  But if people want to protest, I say that's fine and let them, I will simply quietly disagree.

You say if Vick was not famous and worked at an office park nobody would go to protest him working there.  I certainly wouldn't; they can hire whoever they please.  But what if this company was all over the television and media advertising and commercializing their employees as role models to America's youth?  Then would you have a problem and maybe protest?  Maybe you wouldn't personally, but if somebody wants to, that's their perogative.

The NFL is this company.  So if people don't like that, I can understand that while quietly disagreeing.  Some people are more emotional towards certain issues, my emotion is just geared towards different issues while some are respectfully geared toward animal rights.

Btw Rondo, props for very much sound reasoning in this thread before that last argument.  I gave you a TP for it before I even came to that post.

It has to do with the fact that you seem to hold human life and animal life equal, which i find mind boggling, but to each his own.

The man served his time. He did more time than the average human convicted of killing another human without intent does, and way more time than humans who willingly get into cars blasted and kill other humans (hi dante!)

I think he's more than payed for the fact that he killed pitbulls bred to be vicious fighting dogs. It was a heanious act, and he payed a huge price for it, as he should have.

what gets me is that people want him striped of anyway to make a living and punished for the rest of his life for killing pitbulls, but we are all less than moved when a person destroys a family by getting behind the wheel drunk and killing someone because it wasn't thier fault due to being wasted. We have become such a pandering society when it comes to human on human murder that it's sickening.

Doubly so when you consider that, off the top of my head, i can name 3 real life murders of actual humans that are going to be drawing a paycheck this year in the NFL.

I love my family dog too, but he lost 100 million dollars or so and nearly two years of his life, it's time to move on. Let me ask you this, do you think the outcry and subsequent call to drive the man to ruin after he served his time would be as strong if he was convicted of cock fighting?

Of course not, because no one has a beloved family chicken. but you touch a puppy, and your screwed.

But that was the point I was trying to get across, Most people have a problem with vick the person and his situation. Not what he was imprisoned for.  If you boycott Vick you have to Boycott everybody that is arrested, for something you believe is aweful, serves his time and goes back to his job.

Whether or not he has changed we'll never know. We won't know if a "beating" from prison helped. If Vick is allowed in the NFL that's alright. I'm a dog lover, but worse people have gotten off with worse crimes. It's still a disturbing thing that he had but whatever. I don't think it really matters to Goodell. At least, he wouldn't be in the NBA, Stern would make sure he didn't go to jail so he could make money off of the entertainment he brings.
