Getting Marquis Daniels in a Celtic uniform along with signing BBD will put us over the top.   Hopefully both will happen soon.

I don't think adding bench players puts us "over the top".

Having a healthy team is necessary. The Daniels and BBD situation could take a while unfortunately.

I think the deal will be done soon, maybe this week.  A lot of other frontcourt players got signed last week (Warrick, Odom, Gooden, maybe Powe next).  There's no reason for it to drag out much longer.

exactly, having a healthy starting 5 will automatically put us over the top. We are not in it to win the regular season, we are in it for the postseason.

having a healthy 5 is what puts us at the top... BBD and Daniels kick us over the top.

well, I think a healthy KG and an improved Rondo is what will put us over the top, anything else is gravy

Meh, every team needs bench players. But our bench wasn't anything special, it was the talent of the Big 3 that got us there.

To say Daniels is the difference is silly in my opinion, when any number of backups could fulfill his role.

I am not so much worried about resolving the Daniels situation.  I am more worried about the "4th big" situation. Given health issues of KG and KP and age issues of KG and Wallace, I think it is essential to have a quality 4th big.

At this point, it seems likely that BBD will be back with the Cs.  It wouldn't be the end of the world if he signs elsewhere and DA doesn't match, but one issue is that the pool of potential other 4th big men - guys like Joe Smith, for example - is shrinking.  When this game of offseason musical chairs ends, I don't want the Cs to have to plug a hole with a player like Mikki Moore.
Celtics fan for life.

The talent of the big 3 was definitely what got us there, and Sheed is a much more important pickup than Daniels will be, however I think you're missing one thing here. Daniels allows PP to be the player he can be when it matters in the playoffs. He provides us the ability to give him the rest he so desperately needed all year long so that he isn't worn out by season end, and not have a big dropoff in production. The number of backups with Daniels' talent that will potentially sign for a small number isn't that big. The shelves are almost bare out there now.

Daniels= Fresh legged PP

For Daniels, I'm honestly not that worried about it.  He'll be here; Danny and Scal, among others, have already talked about him as if he's a member of the team.

I agree with you that Daniels will be here, but seems uncharacteristic for Ainge to talk about Daniels like that prior to an actual signing and I don't recall those type of quotes from Ainge.  Do you have links?

Quote from: Boston Globe
We like Gabe but he was not going to get a chance to play much with Marquis (Daniels) coming in," Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said. "He has a bright future and this will give him a chance to play elsewhere."

Brian Scalabrine was on the same page as Celtics management with free agents. And Scalabrine believes the acquisitions of Rasheed Wallace and Marquis Daniels will make the Celtics the favorites to regain the championship.

“I’m loving Rasheed Wallace,’’ Scalabrine said last week at a State House presentation for the team’s Heroes Among Us program. “And Marquis Daniels gives us versatility. Those two things, I think, make us the best team in the league.

Somewhat, a lack of a solid backup for Pierce was only half the problem.

The other half was missing KG. Pierce and Ray both had to work a lot harder without KG out there both on defense and offense.
