Intangibles people, intangibles.  You must not have seen Bowen play much, if you're going to judge him solely on his stat line.

Bowen fell off a few years ago. He's a shell of what he once was. He doesn't have the lateral quickness to stay with many other wing players.

Our team already struggles with young athletic wings. We need some young legs off the bench to spell the tired legs of our vets. Daniels, Giddens and Walker will be just fine.

U need to play the youth as the 4th wing.  Why have Bowen take minutes from either alker or Giddens.  Makes no sense!

I doubt Bowen could hurt that much. The guy knows how to win in this league. You can never have enough of those guys..

why exactly do you need to play the youth for the 4th wing? So they can make selfish and boneheaded plays while they dream of a big contract? No thanks. We are playing for a championship, we are not trying to rebuild or raise the value of our draft picks.

Quick reality check on Bruce Bowen.

Never a great player, not getting better; his 2008-09 season stats were terrible:
MIN - 18.9
PTS - 2.7
AST - 0.5
REB - 1.8
FG% - .422
3P% - .429
FT% - .538

PER - 5.37
On Court Offense - -9.2
On Court Defense - -3.3
Opponent PER, Small Forward - 13.7
Opponent PER, Small Forward - 13.5 (Udoka)
Opponent PER, Small Forward - 14.9 (Finley)

Big small forwards from the west perform better against San Antonio than their average:
Anthony - FG% +1.5
Jackson - FG% +5.4
Howard  - FG% +6.1
Durant - FG% +1.9
Half of the small forwards in the East are to big for Bowen: Lebron, Lewis, Turkoglu, Thadeus Young, Granger, Butler or Wallace

In the first section, we established that he is not good at offense. In the second section, we established that he is not a great defender. In the third section, we established that he cannot ease Pierce's defensive burden.

How does a 6'7", 200 pound, 38 year old scrub help this team?

These stats you mention mean nothing to me! I'd take Bruce Bowen any day of the week.

I'm sorry. Stat are pointless when you are talking about Bruce.  As old as he is Bowen is good enough to be 12th or 13th man on our roster. All we need is 5-8minutes in the playoffs guarding Lebron or Kobe. He still has plenty of flagrant fouls to go before he retries.

Exactly. I say bring him in, give the majority minutes in the season to Walker and put Bowen in if Walker is a bust. And play Bruce in the playoffs for 10 minutes so Pierce can breath.
The "BIG 3" only work well when all 3 our on the court at the same time. Having Pierce and KG go to the bench and leave Ray to play SF puts burden on the whole team. Pierce and KG come back to retake the lead, Allen sits down and Eddie comes out to guard the SG like Kobe or Dwade
Can't stop, Rondo!

Makes perfect sense.  We have youth in the first 3 wings off the bench, so the 4th wing is gonna get limited minutes anyway.
Let Walker and Giddens develop some more.  If they end up passing Bowen, let them take over.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Are you serious? We're talking about the championship, not getting minutes on the Grizzlies, which I doubt Giddens or Walker would right now.

Again, Bowen is a great fit here.  With Marquis Daniels around and Pierce and Allen playing at least 35 mpg in close games (averages will be lower with blow outs), Bowen will only be needed for a few minutes per game.  That's perfect for a player his age.

As for Giddens and Walker, who really cares?  Likely neither will ever be more than a role player, so delaying them developmentally is hardly catastrophic.  Moreover, even if one of them is going to be a star down the road, holding that off one more year is only going to help the C's financially as Danny will be able to lock one or both up cheap.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Rondo 36/ House 12
R.Allen 35/Daniels 10/ House 3
Pierce 35/ Daniels 8/ Bowen 5
Garnett 33/ Scal 10/ Wallace 5
Perkins 28/ Wallace 20

Assuming minutes play out something like this I don't see how Bowen would hurt us. As the 4th wing your not going to be spending much time guarding top wing players like Carmelo or Lebron.

I'm wondering...Bowen played for SA, a very defensive minded team, who won the sowest with 54 wins. They shipped him out. They are gearing up for a championship challenge in the west, with that acquisition of Jefferson and Ginobli coming back. Bowen's freee to go back there, where he should be most valuable to be able to contribute. SA isn't calling him for lunch, never mind pursuing him to go back.

That tells me all I need to know...PASSSSSS.

U r dead wrong.  Bowen is a fossil man.  U need to get these kids minutes in the regular season.  Look how BBD developed with playing time when KG went down.  Look back to how Gomes and Powe developed with minutes.  If you dont play Walker and Giddens then why even draft them.
