I'm calling it now...If we sign Bowen this Celtics team (if healthy) wins it all again. I feel like its a no brainer. I started to feel this way when we signed Sheed...Then we got (sortof so far) Daniels and the bench got even stronger... We nab Bowen, thats a crazy good 9 man rotation we have and we instantly gain the leagues best bench along with the best starting line up.

Daniels was an excellent pick up cause he can play the 2-3 on defense but can man the point position on offense allowing him to play alongside Eddie House. Sheed, KG, and Perk each playing equal minutes in the rotation downlow is perfect, each can play with the other. Throw Bowen in off the bench and my oh my we are good to go...

This all without BBD, who has potential to also sign here. We get Bowen, the title is ours. Period.

Well, I feel good about our chances too, but Bowen really isn't a significant pickup at this point in his career.  There's a reason the Spurs traded him away and he got waived by the Bucks.

yea but for the money we could get him at, and the smaller role he'd be playing.... i think he could be a real dealbreaker.

Bruce Bowen is 38 years old. Most wing players are done in the 33-35 range. Bowen has been washed up for the last few years. He has been surviving buy his grit and intelligence. You can only do that for so long at the pro level. Bowen does not have the lateral quickness to keep ANY elite wing in front of him at this point in his career.

I liked Bowen when he played for us when his career started and I always rooted for him in SA despite being a spurs hater. But the truth is the guy just cant hack it anymore. I think it would be better to spend the extra cash on getting BBD back and letting Daniels, Walker and Giddens split the backup wing minutes. If the Spurs thought he could help them still they would have kept him. Truth is, there are much better options available at this point. Some of them are on our own team.

Bowen shouldn't be our primary backup. But he's a good safety net. Walker or Giddens should get the job.

I will be in the underwhelmed camp if we sign him myself. He has been one of the most overrated players in the NBA for a while now and he was only able to get 18 minutes a game on an injury dipleted Spurs team. He could play tough defense but is not quick enough anymore to guard elite players. On offense can knock down an open 3 and do absolutely positively nothing else. He can't even shoot free throws (career 57%). Personally, I would rather have TA at this position with an eye on improvement through trading his contract for an upgrade.

This is a distinct possibility.

TA is the better defender at this point ... but Bowen's three point shooting is the difference maker for me. I'd rather have Bruce here as a result.

The levels of green coolaid flowing in this town have reached new highs. Since when does acquiring a dirty washed up 38 year old wing player guarantee a championship. Locking in BBD might help during the regular season; but neither Bowen or BBD are going to make a big difference. Bowen would have a negative impact (look at his play on the Spurs last year). BBD would be a serviceable but undersized big off the bench.

Love it when Bowen would body up someone only to have them blow right by him or get tripped on the way to the rim (for two shots at the line).

Signing Bowen would not guarantee a championship in any way (although I think we are already the favorites, so moot point). However, depth is depth, so if we can get him for the veteran minimum, I would welcome Bruce Bowen with open arms.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Yeah, .429 (42 out of 98) from downtown is pretty negative.

It makes no difference if Bowen is still able to guard 'elite' wing players any more.  Playing on our second unit, he is quite unlikely to be matched up with an elite player from the opposing team's bench.  I'm sure he's not the stopper that he once was, but I think his defense will be fine for 15 minutes a game on the second unit.  And even if his 1 on 1 defensive skills have diminished, his experience will allow him to effectively fit into Thibodeau's system of team defense.  We have plenty of players on our roster that are capable of guarding wings- Pierce, Allen, Daniels, Giddens, Walker, etc.- so Bowen doesn't need to be a huge stopper.

I think his experience will be invaluable for us.  He's played in plenty of huge games, and is well suited to playing under the glare of the playoff spotlight.  His ability to stretch the floor is also an attribute that could pay huge dividends for us.

Do it Danny!
