I doubt we could even get Lugo for him.

well we'd obviously have to continue paying his salary.

IMO Tony Allen is still an above-average defender. Yes, his basketball IQ is pretty darn low. But his defensive skills cannot be overlooked. I think that is his only value however, aside from the expiring contract. So a team who is looking to round out their roster might take Tony Allen purely for his defense. Anything extra will be a bonus.

tony's only value is his expiring contract..and that might not mean much. i don't want tony on the court EVER. he shoots boston out of games and makes stupid decisions. he is worthless to this team. if they are counting on him to play big minutes as a back up SG or SF...it is a huge mistake.

he is deadweight like pruitt...

TA is twice the player Pruitt is...

and TA is a pretty decent slasher but can't perform well without alot of minutes, which he can't have on this team.

To us he's useless becuase of inconsistency and low IQ (or trying to hard to stay on the court, then having bad judgement)BUT i think TA could be very useful to a middle of the pack team (like the Hawks, Wizards, Heat, Jazz...)

that is my point...TA just doesn't really help the celtics at all. let him go to the thunder or somewhere else..i just dont think him being counted on to be a major piece to championship run is a good idea. i would rather deal him for a piece they need..but it seems nobody wants him

TA is a decent slasher but lacks enthusiasm.

I think the opposite it true. TA has too much enthusiasm.

That is why he is such a spaz. He is clearly trying really hard, but can't get his game under control. Look at him jump over guys who pump fake.

That's the big problem with old TA... He still kind of is a good player.. If he is starting. Coming off the bench he's worthless; and that's always been the case, even in his rookie year. It's a small sample size, he when he started this previous year he averaged 16.5 PPG, and it was over that in 2005 or 2006 before he hurt his knee again. He just isn't good enough to start over Ray.

Tony Allen only trade value is his expiring contract. As a player, he has none. So only teams who are looking to cut costs, and who can do so by acquiring TA, will be interested in him.

So, mostly bad contracts that last multiple years. That's the type of trade value he has.

Agreed! His contract is his only value as his injury aint helping his career out.  TA shouldn´t be hard to deal away from Boston but what we get back might be the reason why he isn´t gone.

We could probably parlay him with Scalabrine into a guy with an oppressively bad contract over a longer time frame.

Too true!  But I didn't think Vin or Raef were still under contract with anyone.

The only value TA seems to have is an expiring contract. Teams around the league by now should know though that he's a slasher that when determined will put up points on the board. The question mark is really just a matter of what mode he's in. As we know all too well, he's a Jekyll and Hyde player.

By now, I feel confident in writing him off as nothing beyond an intermediate role player on a good team. On a team like the 08 Celtics, he had stretches where he took over ballgames, and ballgames that left you scratching your head, wondering why he was even on an NBA team.

I think TA alone could command a 2nd round pick, or two, if we're lucky. But I'd prefer holding onto him unless a much bigger trade involving other expiring contracts (Scalabrine?) can be combined to net a player of significance. It would probably mean adding to the already heavy payroll the owners are responsible for. But it'd subsequently provide insurance for injuries. As we saw last year, even our best players could go down and leave us vulnerable.
