Not sure if anyone already said this, but Memphis pulled their offer to Warrick, because they wanted some extra cap space. I don't think they did that so they could take on the C's garbage contract.
yep, they wanted flexibility, considering hakim plays a position where they're quite deep and they didn't want to pay him to sit on the bench.
that flexibility allows them to get a two guard with some potential for free here.
What 2 guard with potential?
If you are talking about Tony Allen, that is a hell of a lot of spin.
tony allen hasn't played a meaningful role in green since he blew out his knee 2 years ago. at the time he was lighting it up on a young, bad team. he can't average 15 off the bench in lionel hollins system with meaningful minutes behind mayo and gay on a young, bad team? i'm sorry but the constant putting down on this blog doesn't change the fact that he's a talented slasher and defender.
Oh, I absolutely think he could. But I think if other GMs saw that, he would not still be on the C's.
Memphis cleared cap room for a reason. It was not because they simply wanted to get rid of Warrick, it was because they wanted to be able to make a run at a FA, or a trade.
While Tony would be decent for them (in that he would excite the fans and put up empty numbers), they can do MUCH better with the cap room they have. They could turn that into a more valuable player right now, or could take on someone elses contract, in return for first round draft picks. More likely though, they have someone targeted already, and we will find out who it is soon.
