Griz Letting Warrick Go

"That power forward is Hakim Warrick, who was taken by surprise Thursday night when the Grizzlies rescinded their $3 million qualifying offer to him to give themselves more flexibility on the free-agent market."

We can't offer anything but a minimum contract until we finish the S&T for Daniels.

After that all we can offer is the LLE, Warrick will probably have richer offers than that. I'm not sure what assets we have that Memphis would want if we were to seek a sign and trade to land him.

Plus we'd have to finish the Daniels situation to even know what pieces we could move for him.

What is Danny up to? Can't even bring Daniels to Boston.

I don't know about you, but getting cut by memphis doesn't look good. We need to upgrade not downgrade. Still hopeful Baby returns.

Oh, don't worry---he'll sign with Clev or Orlando---or maybe even the Lakers.

I don't think him being cut had anything to do with production. The Grizz are probably trying to save salary anywhere possible after bringing in Randolf and his huge contract. Also, they probably figure that with Randolf in the fold Warrick might not have a role on the team. They can keep Arthur to back up Randolf at 1/3 of the cost. Sounds like a typical move by the Grizz.

Quick note on the Grizz... the two highest paid players on their team next season: 1) Zack Randolf ~17mil 2) Marko Jarik ~7mil hahaha talk about not getting a return on your investment.

Danny is negotiating, he's trying to convince Larry Bird that he should take on Scal or Tony's salary after he just cut Daniels to SAVE MONEY.

While we're on the subject of saving money... thats why Warrick got cut, not becuase his game was lacking.

I'm not sure how Navarro counts against their cap, but assuming they renounce Warrick (which they still haven't done), they'll be about 10-11 million under the cap.

This means, they still have enough money to use on him if needed be to sign him.

It all depends on how much money the player they're interested is going to make (rumored to be Iverson). About 7 million sound alright? They could still use those 3-4 million on Warrick if he doesn't get better offers, which is about what his qualifying offer is.

But as of right now, they still have his Bird Rights, which means if Warrick wants to get good offers, he'll probably be better served in a sign and trade situation.

From what I see, there are not many teams left willing to spend 4 million+.

We'll see.

I guess one possibility would be to "give up" on the Daniels S&T (read: blame the Pacers for not playing ball) and sign him to the LLE, and then pursue a different S&T for Warrick.

With that said, would we rather have Warrick than Big Baby? I can't see us signing both.

Seems unlikely with Daniels / Big Baby / backup point all still on the radar.

I'll take Warrick over Baby, especially if we still have Scal hanging around.

Rondo with Warrick and Garnett on the floor should be interesting to see.

I agree with this, completely. Warrick over Baby and Scalabrine. KG/Sheed/Perk/Warrick is a really, really strong front court.

Can Memphis sign and trade him? I really don't want to see him going to LAL, CLE, or Orlando.

this is why the sign an trade the pacers should have been done days ago.

I don't think the Magic have any $ left.  So I don't think they will sign him.
too bad we couldn't work out a sign and trade.  I find it hard to believe no one was interested in a young power forward in a trade who'd only cost $3, not $5.6 million.  Not bad production for 24 minutes a game.
With getting Moon, the Cavs are probably maxed out too.

The Lakers should have money since they can't figure out what to do with Odom.

I'd rather Danny take his time then force through a deal that he doesn't like for the sake of getting it done quickly.

If Warrick is interested in the C's why wouldn't he wait until later this week when the team will be able to make him an offer?

I love this guy. I think I like him more than BBD. I would like to see DA get aggressive and creative for this one.
