I think in order to get Warrick off their books to save money on their cap the Grizzlies had to renounce Warrick. The Griz rescinded the qualifying offer. By doing that they made him an unrestricted free agent. But if they don't renounce him then he actually, I believe counts more against their cap than the qualifying offer so hence by rescinding the qualifying offer they are renouncing him completely.

Now the Griz can resign him even though he is renounced and even sign and trade him but in order to do so they must fit the amount that he signs for under their cap or use the minimum veteran exemption. Since they renounced him to get him off the books to apparently go after Iverson, they are not going to sign and trade him to bring in matching salary. Problem here is I can't find a place where they have an up to date Grizzlies salary breakdown after all the trades and the draft slots.

So I think a sign and trade with the Grizzlies will not happen. I'm pretty sure he'll have to take the LLE to be a Celtic and that is unliokely as he is worth more than that on the open market. I say he signs in Detroit

Detroit doesn't have any cap room left after signing Wilcox.

don't get overly excited - 1) we can't afford him and 2) memphis is probably clearing salary to take a run at bbd

Okay apparently Hoopshype has the Grizzlies at $47 million in salary this year with Randolph and Thabeet and Stackhouse on the books. I don't know what Navarro costs as a hold bot if they didn't renounce Warrick he counts for nearly $6.5 million on the cap hold. They had to renounce him.

They haven't renounced him yet though according to the article. They're looking to sign and trade him first.

I agree we can't afford him, which is why I hope DA gets a knee pad to help him with the begging he needs to do.

We need to pull a Stewie Griffin here and be like "We'll give you anything you want! Power, money, women....men?"

Missed that news! Not a bad pick up for Detroit. Yeah, that rules the Pistons out. Maybe NJ as they still have the MLE and he might be the type of player that will fit there.

I don't think so, they had enough cap room remaining to make a run at BBD before. They also are paying Zach Randolph a ton of money for the next two years and have Marc Gasol and Thabeet.

That makes no sense though because now he counts more against their cap. A sign and trade will now just bring more salary back and lessen the space under the cap not increase it

Depends on what the deal is, maybe they can get a 3 million dollar player they want and then just use what's left of their cap space. I think they'll explore their options, but in the end renounce him.

Couldn't they have explored $3 million sign and trades while he was a RFA and counted as $3 million against the cap as a qualify offer instead of the $6.5 million he now counts as?

Yes but then Warrick could have signed it and they'd be stuck with paying him 3 million when they had decided to move on at the SF/PF positions.

I think you're right that they'll end up renouncing him. But this does free up money in their organization, as it was looking like Warrick would sign the QO.

I guess I am just not as high on him as others.

I think the Celtics would be better if Davis resigns and the look for a defensive 1st SG/SF to compliment Daniels off the bench.

I just can't get excited about a tweener that was a bench player on one of the worst teams in the NBA, and they decide to just let him go for nothing.

If he want to sign for the vet min and be the 4th swingman/6th big man (I would still play Scali ahead of him because Scali plays better defense and hits outside shots)

Who cares?  Can he defend KG?  No.  Does that make Orlando any less of a jumpshooting team?  No.  Does that make Cleveland able to defend the pick and roll?  No.
