per mark stein ESPN:

The Bucks, meanwhile, continue to explore their trade options with Bruce Bowen, who must be paid $2 million and waived by Aug. 1, or his $4 million salary for next season will become fully guaranteed.

No deal involving Bowen was close as of late Wednesday, but Milwaukee will continue to make Bowen available until it has to release him to save the extra $2 million.

I'm likewise told that there have not been any trade discussions between the Bucks and Boston that would put Bowen back in Celtics green, even though the 38-year-old seemingly would appeal to the Celts to plug into the role -- perimeter defensive specialist who can drain 3s, guard certain power forwards and provide some championship know-how -- that they never filled last season after James Posey left.

Why trade for him?  The Bucks are going to cut him and make him a free agent.

Celtics just need to wait till someone waives him.  Then try and sign him to vet min.  No need to spend 4 million on him.

I'm not sure how much of a stopper he is defensively anymore. I do however think he could play 5-10 minutes a game and annoy the crap out of whoever is guarding him. Also his defensive insight will be great for Walker and/or Giddens.

I don't like Bowen, but he's definitely a player we could use.

I agree.  In many ways, he's a perfect fit since you really only want him to play 5-10 mpg anyway.  With Marquis Daniels looking to get 25+ mpg, those 5-10 mpg would be about perfect in filling out all the backup minutes behind Allen and Pierce.

As far as a trade, the only thing I wonder is if Danny prefers to make a trade.  Sure, Bowen would come on for the vet. minimum if he was waived.  But that's still better than a million dollars.  By trading 4 million in salary and taking 4 million back on, they don't lose any money.

I sort of agree with this line of thinking. Obviously, Bowen can't be counted on for 25 min/night. But honestly, I'm not sure he can handle 5 minutes a night. It's not a matter of stamina/conditioning, it's really a matter of quickness. At 38, is Bowen going to be quick enough to stay in front of anybody? That's the real question, in my mind. If he can't move those legs fast enough to stay in front of his man, then he's a liability every second he's on the floor. I don't know the answer though, maybe he still has enough quickness.

Certainly, he would be a nice guy to have off the bench that could come in at the end of a game on offense to spread the floor and maybe hit a big three-ball in the corner. Of course, that's why we have Eddie. So nevermind. I think I'm talking myself out of Bowen as I type.

It all comes back to defense, I guess. If he can still keep up defensively, he'd be a nice vet. min. pickup. Otherwise, no.

I'd rather sign Ime Udoka. He basically gives you the samethings as Bowen, but he's younger and a bit more athletic. Plus he took minutes away from Bowen two years ago when he got to San Antonio. Granted, neither of them did too much last year. But we're only talking about 5-10 minutes a game for that player.

I agree, this really would be a great signing, of course, health will be the wildcard

Theres no question he can still defend, and anything after that would be gravy

No one could claim that PP has no help if this happened even if Bowen could only give 10 minutes a night.  With Daniels and Bowen sharing backup duties at the 2 and 3 we'd be in good shape if it happened on the cheap.  No way is he worth $2 mil a year at this stage of his career.

Bowen is done.  He is not the defensive stopper from like 5 years ago.  Those days are long gone!
