Waived today by the Clippers. If you recall, he signed with the Clip Show last offseason, retired, then tried to get reinstated midseason to sign with a contender but was blocked and forced to sit out the entire season. Clippers retained exclusive negotiation rights, but waived those today. Anybody picking him up off waivers gets exclusive rights to negotiate with him.

He wants to continue playing for 2-3 more years. He'll be 34 in November. In 07-08 in Miami, he put up 8.8 points, 4.6 assists, 1.36 turnovers, 1.24 steals in 24 minutes a game, shooting 35% from 3, 38% on FGs and 85% on FTs.

Would you be interested in him over say Marbury or Tinsley as a backup point?
Go Celtics.

Apologies if someone else has already posted on this.

Jason Williams' rights have been relinquished by the Clippers, making him free to negotiate with any team as an unrestricted free agent.

For the LLE, I'd be fine with him in Boston backing up Rondo. I wonder if he wants a better opportunity for minutes, though.

I'd pass on him, but it would be fun to reunite him with Randy Moss.
Still a sap for my kids -

would LOVE him backing up Rondo, if Marbury doesn't want the money Williams will take it. Plus its just like Rondo's still out there with J-Will's pass first attitude. I love this dude so much.

Please provide a Jason Williams update -- I can't find him on NBA.com or Hoopshype.

At one time he looked like a young Pete Maravich -- exciting young player years back -- but I lost track of him.  Tell me his bio/stats for last few years.  Thanks.

He was a starter for the 05/06 Champion Miami Heat,

He got 12pts 5ast that season but dropped down to 8pts 5ast by 07/08

Jason retired in 08-09 due to problems with his wifes pregnancy, but has since returned.

I think Jason's pass first attitude will allow him to be a good role player.

Plus i think he'd love to come over and hang with the Super Freak down Foxboro.

If I remember correctly, He tried to comeback last year out of retirement. The problem was that to come out of retirement that the teams of the league must agree that you can come back(not sure if its majority or unanimous) but the rest of the league disapproved him to return. I don't know if that's not the case sense his "rights" have been released from the Clips.

But YES, I would take him as a backup to Rondo.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Over Tinsley, yeah - that guy's burned bridges everywhere he's gone.  Given Marbury's experience with the team and superior talent, I'd prefer him to Williams.

Yeah, they noted in the ESPN story, it has to be unanimous but six teams vetoed - the Clippers, Atlanta, Chicago, Minnesota, San Antonio and Houston. He wanted to sign with a contender. I'd guess he'd love to come here to compete on a winning team. Don't think he plans to start, just play. Could be a decent value pickup. I'd probably be more comfortable with Marbury but I'd definitely go for Williams. It's tough though, because he's definitely not a big or strong enough defender to man twos, which makes it tough to play him with House.
Go Celtics.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Not alot of defense between him and House, but atleast he can shoot.

I would rather not come off the bench with a point gaurd who shoots almost as bad as Rondo. Also ever since he was told to tone his game down he's never been as effective as he was when he was just a gunslinger.

But if it's him or Tyron Lue sign me up for Williams.

Burned bridges everywhere he's gone? He's only played for one team...

Erm, the guy hasn't played competitive basketball for more than a year, and hasn't played defense for as long as he's been in the NBA. Why do we need him, exactly?

Huh - was thinking he'd been around a bit.  Well...Iowa St lost to Hampton, that's gotta count for something.
